OMG.. I.. Uhh.. Holy crap.. I just enabled QE via PCI Extreme.. I am speechless.. I.. Can't describe what I just saw.. Over a 33mhz Bus.. Well.. It's hard to believe. I clicked Minimize.. And my god. It was smooth. The genie effect.. It looked smooth. Like *perfectly* smooth.. I can't believe such a old machine is capable of that... Now that I turn to my Cube (400mhz), and click Minimize.. I swear my old Powerbase looks MUCH More incredably smoother... I am wordless. I am wordless. Once cannot apprecieate the shear speed and smoothness of a perfect Genie Effect without seeing it for themselfs. It is flawless. Window dragging is perfect. The entire GUI is like it has been rebuilt from the start. It is more smoother then I could hope for. I feel I must stop and give thanks... For $99.. Anyhow. QE Works just fine. QT still works just fine. OpenGL Gives me around 40-50fps under XBench. Works just fine. |

Just got my card. Didn't get the 32mb version though. Went with the 64mb instead. Indentical card, just different memory. ATI Part Numba 100-430295. I freaked out a few times (I'm used to specific timings during the boot, and those timings are different) on bootup. Just a 2 second delay before it changes Vid res. My freakin' god. I can now do the Flurry Scrensaver at FULL Res without ANY Delay. The whole freakin' system is as smooth as silk. Granted a few aspects are still a wee bit slow, but over a 33mhz (<- ?) PCI Bus, things are absolutly stunning. Powerbase 200 with G3 400mhz OC'd to 467mhz (46.7mhz bus), and a 7200 RPM HD. First two PCI Slots are Network and USB, Last is Radeon. I can't believe ATI let this slip through. No wonder they want so much for the Mac edition. Still. 64mb is nice. So ye all. Grab'em Radeons while you can. ATI is supposably working on some fix on the newer cards (once they ship). It will make ur OS X Box seriously come alive (w/out QE. I will try that next). Bottom line. Worth the $106 Canadian. Would pay any day. Works absolutly fine. |

Well, it looks like the ATI Radeon 7000 PCI (VGA-only) card works fine with the ROM hack. From what we gathered on the German board, the Sapphire 32 MB card is actually running the GPU at ~140 MHz rather than the ATI 32 MB card's ~180 MHz. Installing the v208 Mac ROM had the effect of overclocking it past what you could call a functional value, therefore making it totally unusable. I paid $55 for the ATI card at Allstarshop.com, but you can find it for $50 plus a $10 mail-in rebate at CompUSA. I like Allstarshop.com since they are local to me (south Orange County, CA) but CompUSA is everywhere. For instructions and software downloading, you can get it from my .mac page at the following URL: http://homepage.mac.com/primewave |

In response to my post about the Sapphire 32 MB 7000 card, the OEM card listed on Allstarshop.com DOES NOT WORK with the flash ROM hack. I would advise anyone wanting to try this hack to NOT buy that card. I am going to buy the ATI-made 7000 card (VGA only) to try next with the hack, and I'll report back on my findings. It should work, going by others' reports, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. |

Hmm. Okay. Over at XLr8yourmac.com, under forums, they seem to have some progress. Here is my option: ATI Radeon 7000 PC, 32mb DDR. It has the VGA Port (only?). I sorta need a straight answer here. My previous attempt failed with another ATI Card because the BIOS ROM Chip was only 64kb, not 128kb. Do you guys know if this card is flashable and will properly work in my Mac? My mac is a Powerbase 200 w/PCI. 33mhz PCI I believe. Another thing that sets off the dinger in my head is teh drivers thing- as this has been mentioned- do these flashed cards actually work with the ATI Drivers? None of this unsupported hardware errors, etc? Or is the only difference between the Mac Radeon and the PC Radeon (both built by ATI, not the Saphire versions) the BIOS and ports on the card? Same basic chipsets, etc? |

Apple Monitors use a different connection i believe, DVI is Digital Video Interface but is used by most LCDs and maybe a few CRTs. (I am not sure about the CRTs). It provides a much nicer picture and has a few other enhancements. |

Ian(primewave), I have put all the files at http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=nickis_que&templatefn=FileSharing11.html Or public Folder: Nickis_que It is called Radeon7000.dmg.gz, because I had already burned them to CD I did not have all the Sit files. So I created a disk image. I will leave them up until one of two things happen. 1. I need the space 2. they tell me to pull it. have fun Marc AKA Nickis_Que |

I just picked one of the Sapphire cards up through will call from Allstarshop.com ($44 plus CA sales tax) but I have not been able to grab the ATI driver and v208 ROM files from their website, as they have been pulled. I have the flashing utilities for the Intel machines, but not the stuff for the Mac end of it. Does anyone have both the ATI Driver (October Update) and the v208 ROM updater? If so, please email me at ian@primewave.net and/or upload it to my iDisk's public folder. My username is primewave. I'll mirror those, and all the other files needed, for those who wish to flash the cards themselves. |

The Sapphire 32 and 64 mb cards are just like the Mac Radeon once flashed. Which means they have Vga, DVI and TV OUT. The ATI 32 and64 mb cards on the other hand are one VGA port only. The Sapphire 64mb card hasn't yet been found available in North America just the 32mb version. |

lexxel, the ATI #100-430290 is a Single VGA output with no S-Video or TV out. This does not bother me. If I was going to hook up my TV to one of my computers they would have to be in the same side of the house. Good Luck Marc |

So are these the cards with the single vga port? (not the tv, video ones). Any word on the 64 at this time? Thinking if I'm going to invest in a new video card, I may as well go with a 64 if it'll work. |

I can 2nd that the ATI Radeon 7000 PCI 32MB DDR for the PC (ATI #100-430290) works, The hardest thing I had to deal with was finding a old machine at work that does not have built in video. If you connect a PCI video card to a PC with a built in video it always defaults to the external card??? So after about 2 hours of looking in the computer lab I found a pent 133 with dos 6.22 on it. After that everything else was a walk in the park. Things I did to be on the safe side. 1. flashed the card on my powerbase, It has built in video 2. tested the flash by booting 9.2.2 on the Base. 3. booted the powerwave to os 9.2.2 from X 4. changes XPostFacto to point at the new video card 5. booted OS X Finally installed PCI extreme fell in love with the GUI speed With regards Marc Now if I could only figure a way to get SQL server on this thing I would never look at another windows machine. |

Ok, I also got the ATI 7000 32 mb DDR PCI card at CompUSA for $39.00 after $10.00 rebate. It was just too cheap to pass up. ATI makes so many different cards it can be a bit confusing. I now know that the ATI 7000 PC cards both the 32 & 64 mb cards are one VGA port only and no TV out. I don't run 2 monitors and haven't used TV out so decided no big deal. The Sapphire ATI card is available in the USA for $44.00 including shipping form both newegg.com and allstarshop.com . It is the 32 mb card and once ROM flashed is just like the Mac 7000. Two monitor ports and TV out. I couldn't wait for shipping and saved $6.00 ;-) The 64mb Sapphire ATI card doesn't seem to be available in USA.(It also has the extra ports same as the Mac card) The flashing wasn't as easy as I had hoped, do to the PC I had to use.It wouldn't boot with a PCI video card installed with the AGP Video card. So had to hunt up an old PC PCI Video card to get things to work.Damm PC's ;-) Things went well other wise and it does work in both OSX and too my surprise OS 9.1 without adding the open gl etc everyone talks about. I've not used long but is a bit faster and bench marking shows that is is as well. It does in many ways show how good the ATI 128 cards are though with our old World machines. As it's not a major speed jump but every little bit helps! I may also need to do some tweaking. Also not done any Video stuff which could show a difference. |

as of 2/20/03 an update at the german site says: I can confrim the ATI Radeon 7000 PCI 32MB DDR for the PC (ATI #100-430290) works. Â Download the files on the first page, and the 208 ROM from ATI's website and that's all you need. Â ---- I picked up the 7000PCI at CompUSA for $39 ($49 - $10 rebate ). Downloaded the files, burned a CDR, installed the card in a Pentium 66, booted into DOS from Win 98, accessed files from CDR, saved the old ROM, flashed the bogus Mac ROM. Then install the card in my UMAX S900 (aka Pulsar) [similair to PowerMac 8500/9500], install the ROM udpate, reboot/plug in the monitor. Works great. The card at newegg.com that sells for $44 is the 32Mb DDR version. Not sure if that will make a difference or not, but just wanted to point that out. |
