Sound bugs in OSX |

Greetings to all. Just noticed this rather odd problem. I know about the bug not being able to set the external/global volume in OS X.. But it seems that my internal speaker is on %100 regardless of the external speakers being on/off. I cannot mute the internal speaker through the sound panel as it seems. How would one mute the internal PC speaker? And or, is there possibly another sound driver out there for OS X that works better/solves some problems? |

This just in from MacFixit: Fix for audio problems A poster to the Apple discussion boards has posted a workaround for some of the audio problems apparent after applying the Mac OS X 10.2.3 update. One reader describes his problem: "After using the 10.2.3 updater has no sound, and the Sound Control Pane has no Line In or Line Out hardware, and the volume keys either minimize or maximize the sound level graphic, but still no sound." The workaround involves using an older version of the AppleOnboardAudio.kext (the version included with Mac OS X 10.1.3), which seems to allow at least some system configurations to produce sound throughput under Mac OS X 10.2.3. For me, using the "mute" option in the Sound pref pane does mute the internal speaker, but not the external. So it works out just right. But people's experience seems to vary quite a bit on sound. |

I wonder if anyone out there is having good luck with sound on there OldWorld machine... The thread about the MAudio Audiophile 2496 seemed kind of promising.... Is anyone using this card with 10.2.3? Does it work? Does it cut out like the regular audio? Does audio in work? Marty |
