I was successful in getting OS X 10.1 installed--thank you XPostFacto. Then I downloaded the 10.1.5 combo updater, and it would not update the 10.1.0 system already installed. It said I needed Installer Update. Back to Apple to get the Installer Update (a 300K file). It begins to install, but then it just stops when it comes time to select a destination disk--all disks are grayed out. Nowhere to go but back! What am I doing wrong? thanks for the help--Mark |

Thanks to both of you. I was having the exact same problem installing the 10.1.5 combo on an old upgraded 7500. XPF had worked great up unitl this point. You sure do have to read the fine print to see that there are two 7/18/02 updates. Everything works fine after that. Do you know if this is the end of the line for free upgrades or can we upgrade to the 10.2 OS? |

timjudym-- Thanks for the info. I first downloaded and installed the Security Update, 7/18/02. Restart the computer. This turned out to be the primary prerequisite for the Installer Updater. Second, I downloaded the Installer Updater 1.0 and installed that file. This time it went on successfully. Restart the computer. Third, I downloaded the 10.1.5 Combo Updater and installed that file. This file also went on successfully. Hooray. Restart the computer. Under the Apple, About this Mac now reports I am running OS X 10.1.5. What a trip!! So this issue is resolved for me. And thank you all! Mark |

you need to go back to the apple page and read it VERY carefully to choose the right file to download. It is confusing and I have been in your shoes. but if you read it carefully and choose the right file you will be all set to download and run the combined updater. |
