Has anyone dared install this yet? Work OK? What about video out using OS X 10.2.2 ? http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17529 What's new in this version: * Enhanced resolution/mode support for newer monitors with DDC (Display Data Channel) information * Expanded NON-DDC mode lists * Digital Flat Panel Extended Support * 10 Bit Gamma & Color Look Up Table (CLUT) Improvements * Support for Mac OSX's "Detect Displays" Feature * Simulscan resolutions listed differently in Mac OS X. As before, simulscan is only available on RADEON 7000 Mac Edition when a DVI panel is connected along with a CRT and TV. Simulscan modes are not supported when ONLY a DVI flat panel and TV are connected to the RADEON 7000 Mac Edition. With this update, however, simulscan resolutions will not appear labeled as "Simulscan" in the Mac OS X Displays preferences or in the Display menu as they were before. Furthermore, each of the available NTSC resolutions will be listed twice. Simulscan resolutions are STILL available in Mac OS X using this update. In this case, however, one set of the NTSC resolutions is REALLY simulscan. Selecting the appropriate NTSC resolution should enable the TV output WITHOUT blanking the monitor. The two listings will appear identical, so you may have to try both in order to determine which is simulscan. Product Description: The v208 update will replace any previous versions of the RADEON 7000 firmware. When you launch the update application and click the install button, it will identify the RADEON 7000 and proceed only if necessary. If no update is needed, or if no RADEON 7000 is found, nothing will be flashed and the application will prompt you to quit. It is safe to leave other PCI or AGP cards in the system when flashing the RADEON 7000. This update will only flash Built-by-ATI Retail RADEON 7000 Mac Edition products. |

Just wanted to throw in a comment to those who have a Radeon 7000 series card and are going to do the v208 update. Make SURE to use Stuffit Version 7 or 8 Beta to decompress the file from the ATI website. There have been a lot of people that have had problems with the upgrade (rendering the card useless), but it seems to be a file corruption problem that only occurs if you use a Stuffit version prior to 7.0. This thread on XLR8yourmac has more info: http://bbs.xlr8yourmac.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/000393.html . Check out the post from Grant. Anyone that has had a problem with the update on this card should check out the XLR8yourmac thread. They claim to have a fix for the damaged card. |

I can definitely tell you that this software screws up my machine. Its a PM 7600 with a Sonnet G4/800 and the Radeon card. I had been using XPF but switched to the Sonnet software only because it seems to work better with the new accelerator. Others are reporting problems too (on Versiontracker and Macfixit) so I guess ATI already is looking into this. |

John, I successfully booted back and forth from OS 9.1 to OS X 10.2.3 several times this morning. I am wondering if you installed the October 18, 2002 ATI Update for whatever version of Mac OS 9.x you are using. I remember reading somewhere that anything less than 9.1 won't work with one of the ATI updates. |

I installed it also. Works great in OS X, but I do a lot of work in OS 9. Turned off my computer last night; restarted this morning and could not get pass the happy mac icon. Had to reboot from a CD, reinstall my Sonnet software for my G4/800 card and things are back to normal...I think. |

I can report that after upgrading Radeon firmware, then upgrading to OS X 10.2.3, I have no problems so far, only improvements. At last my PTP will wake from display sleep without blitzing out completely. Everything is definitely faster. Folders open quicker, menus drop down much quicker. The promise of OS X usability on Old World Macs may finally have arrived. |

My experence is similar to twoolley's. the upgrade is fine. Upon restart osx had changed my monitors resolutions but I just changed them back. I haven't done the OSX 10.2.3 update just yet. |

hmmm...I just installed OS X 10.2.3. No problems so far. I suppose if anything funny shows up with the Radeon I can reinstall software, but I don't think software, including OS X updates, are going to effect the firmware update. My guess is that ATI most probably had OS X 10.2.3 betas, and released the firmware update after much testing. My worries were more along the line of incompatibility with XPostFacto. Well, after the OS X update and restart I noticed a little speed up in the startup routines, and no other anomalies. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next 48 hours, my usual testing time. |

Thanks. I am going to upgrade but now OS X 10.2.3 has been released. I wonder, should I upgrade the 7000 first or install 10.2.3 first? What to you think? |

Yes, I upgraded two hours ago. Installation was simple and foolproof. You can install in OS X or 9.x. I bravely ungraded in OS 10.2.2. So far no problems on my PowerTower Pro, Sonnet 800 G4, Radeon 7000 PCI Mac, Sonnet Tempo Trio, running OS 10.2.2 with XPF. I've always had a wake from sleep display problem with the Radeon giving me a jumbled screen after waking and forcing me to restart (Energy Prefs set to "Never"). For sleep I just power down my Monitor. I never put drives or system to sleep. Unfortunately this update didn't help this bug, but Speedrun reports at least a 15% graphics speed average increase and AltiVec Fractal Carbon Test is still well over 2000-2700. Lots of new resolutions seem to be available - I use 1280 x 1024 75Hz. Check the ReadMe.html included. It also includes a backwards original ROM flash just in case. Overall, a winning upgrade from ATI IMHO. |
