to It307: I have a PM8500 with a G4 400 daughter card, Sonnet ATA100 card and Generic USB card. When I installed 10.2.3 the sound problem got worse. As an example, I could no longer hear any system sounds in sound preferences with 10.2.3. In 10.2.2, I could hear several of the sounds before sound would quit system wide. This prompted me to follow forum suggestions and use a SCSI drive for the OS. I found an old Western Digital 4GB drive in my parts box and attached it to the internal SCSI chain, and reinstalled the OS. Thing go a little slower, but sound stays around for quite a while, but not forever. I have not had enough time yet with this arrangement to say what is happening. |

I found out that the problem is due to firmware v208 of my Radeon 7000. I reverted back to v119 and although I get some pauses when my monitor sleeps, sound continues thereafter. mach_kernel: MESH: 2084bd02 2340 doHardwareInterrupt - spurious interrupt mach_kernel: IOAudioStream[0x35f3d00]::clipIfNecessary( ) - Error: attempting to clip to a position more than one buffer ahead of last clip position (579,3615)->(57b,302). mach_kernel: IOAudioStream[0x35f3d00]::clipIfNecessary( ) - adjusting clipped position to (57a,3615) |

Looks like 10.2.3 updated the AppleOnboardAudio.kext driver. Has anybody with an ATA card tried to see if it helps with the clipping/sound dying problem? |

I found an incompatibility in 10.2.3 and my 8500's sound. I normally have iTunes run in the background and under 10.2.3, if the monitor sleeps (after the screensaver has kicked in roughly 10 minutes prior), there is no sound until a reboot. I get the following in /var/log/system.log: mach_kernel: MESH: 10945c02 2340 doHardwareInterrupt - spurious interrupt |
