Started with 9600/350 (stock) 1.5 G Ram 18G and 4G SCSI HDs Combo USB/FW PCI XClaim VR 8MB Twin Turbo 8MB Several partitions: 10.1.5, (2) 9.1, 8.6 systems Went through several days of hell swapping RAM chips, removing combo card, etc. and had given up with attempt to use new Sonnet G4/700. Techsupport at Sonnet finally came through with info that the Twin Turbo card was a known culprit. Bingo. Once removed (also took out Xclaim) and replaced with new Radeon Mac Edition (original) the Sonnet card worked fine. However, now I can't boot into the volume that had the 10.1.5 on it. I tried using the XPF 2.2.4 , then went back to an earlier one 2.2b7, slowed throttle to 24, set input to keyboard, output to video card, reinstalled BootX and extensions and verbose mode. Display shows... can't OPEN: scsi-int/@6,0:6 I take it that this means it can't find or open the 18G drive at SCSI ID 6 (that is the ID number for the drive where the X system lies). Yes? What can I do? Drive is formatted with Apple drivers. Booting in 9.1 sees the drive just fine. Also tried to install Jag from 10.2 CD to 4G drive but get nothing but chime and blank screen. |

Yes, you are interpreting the "can't OPEN: scsi-int/@6,0:6" correctly. You could try double-checking the termination to make sure it is correct. There are also sometimes jumper settings on the drive that you can change to make sure that it spins up automatically--sometimes changing the "Disable Unit Attention" jumper helps. |

More info: During attempt to startup/install Jag from Cd get...can't LOAD from this device. Removed CD from drive and restart gave me ...can't OPEN scsi-int@3,0:0 (CD-Rom ID #). Then used Command+Option+shift+delete to find other system and apparently it came across the X partition cause it showed the grey screen with dark gray Apple then a circle with line through it. Thought....I have a PB (Wallstreet/466 upgraded) with Jag installed on it. Would it be possible to connect it to the 9600 via ethernet or SCSI disk mode and install from the PB to the partition on the 9600? |
