7500 w/ Sonnet G4 800, 256 ram, Formac Proformance III 16mb video w/ viewsonic PF790, usb/fw pci card, 24x Apple rom cdr, adaptec 29160n w/ Atlas 10k w/ 9.2.2 on 3gb partition and a 6gb partition for X and XPF 2.2.4. 9.2.2 installed w/ os9forever. XPF runs, recognizes inserted 10.2.1 cd, installs stuff on the target partition, then attempts to restart with nothing but a blank screen and no cdr activity. Exactly the same results by moving and exchanging ram, removing usb/fw pci card, removing video card, verbose commands result in nothing displayed. I have the OSX sw for the 29160n, but can't install it until I have X up and running. Any suggestions? |

Hmm. This means that there is a problem quite early in the boot process. I suppose it may be related to the 29160, though I had thought that there were users who had gotten that to work. If you can try using an internal or external SCSI drive instead, that might help narrow down the problem. |

Input set to keyboard/output to monitor and verbose selected. Run XPF, restarts w/ command-v....get vertical lines on screen as I've gotten before. |

gordner's advice is good--if you set the input-device and output-device in the Open Firmware menu of XPostFacto, and then hold down command-v as the computer restarts, you should get some kind of error message, rather than a blank screen. |

gordner...you're very observant. You noticed the non-stock cd. I had gotten it for a highly modified PCPro that needed a cdr that was apple rom. It was the first swap I did when I started this project 2 days ago. My thought late last night was the same as yours...maybe I should put the ole' 4x back in and see waht happens. I'll also pull the video card and go to on-board, then try the install and report back. God this is fun! I've long since retired my desktops for Powerbooks and currently have a TiBook DVI, but I miss the days when my first stop on-line was Accelerate Your Mac! |

Choose verbose mode. Set the throttle at 14 or more. Then select keyboard as input and your video card as output. This this should get your verbose commands displayed during start-up. At least it worked for me that way. If you then get stuck at 'searching for root devide' or something similar, then change your CD to the stock drive. The Proformance III should give you problems too, since there is no OS X driver. So try with the onboard video. |
