Maybe someboddy can help: Mac 7300 with Sonnet Crescendo G4/800 and Tempo Trio. I managed to get System 10.2 running, but my ISDN USB modem Draytek Mini Vigor 128 - running successfully under 9.1 and 8.6 - is not seen at all. Printer Port, Modem Port and Ethernet can be chosen - all installed Draytek drivers can be found there - but USB doesnÕt show up, neither does the device itself. For example: in System Profiler the USB-Ports of the Tempo Trio are there, but with Òno deviceÓ. Since somebody told me, that the newest System Updates had solved similar problems for him, I installed 10.2.1 through 10.2.3, but this makes no difference. Has somebody experience with the 29,95-dollar Sonnet PCI X Installer? If that software were the solution for my problem, IÕd buy it, but only then. 30 Dollars are far too much for me to pay just for a chance. It seems to me, that I already have achieved what they promise, by other means: correct display of L2 and L3 cache, Installation of System 10 and Classic start under System 10. Second question: Does anybody know about solutions for those serial devices that are not supported under System 10? Particularly for my Wacom Pen Partner graphical pad (ADB version) and my Epson Stylus Photo 700 printer (Printer Port version)? |

Not quite. You didn't get an answer you your serial printer question yet. Newest version of CUPS will support the serial backend, but Darwin is two revisions behind. Once the serial backend is supported, you can use the GIMP-Print driver to use your Epson Photo 700. You can try compiling the latest CUPS source code yourself, if you know how to do that sort of thing. I haven't had time to figure it out and try yet, but someone has reported success just compiling to a dummy folder, and then copying the serial backend binaries to the right place under Darwin. In the meantime, you can get a cheap standalone ethernet print server (PC compats like Hawkings should work), and use the GIMP-Print driver with that. You are also supposed to be able to use it with USB-parallel converters. The forums report success with the Epson USB-Parallel adapter, but I've had problems with the Asante. It works under OS 9 perfectly with the stock Epson drivers, but under OS X, although I can see and configure the printer just fine, the GIMP driver spews out blank pages or pages of garbage. Interestingly, Asante only advertises PC compatibility with the adapter, but it seems to have native support in both 9 and X. I don't know if asante.com still has the deal, but it was $15, $1 shipping, and $10 rebate for a net cost of $6. The guy on the Gimp-print forum who gave that out advertised success, but I continue to have problems. |

The only new, but encouraging information in UweÕs comment was, that the MiniVigor really works in a similar environment, so I redid some steps, only to find out that I must have messed things up earlier. Maybe by not deinstalling first tries before making new ones. So after a while I decided to toss everything away and perform a new clean install. Which is a extremely time consuming operation - nerve wrecking because the Òremaining timeÓ-figures are quite the opposite from reality. I have the british multi-language Jaguar version and you end up with something like 10 thousand files on disk!! Unbelievable. I went to the japanese Draytek site and got the newest (english) driver, installed it and:Ê SUCCESS!!! Thanks Uwe. Danke schšn, Herr Nachbar. So I think we can close this thread. I did it in the morning under OS X 1.(I write from Germany, try to translate the German names of OS) Go to "Network" . In the second row of the window you can choose the active connections. There you will find "usbmodem-port" Than you can configureunder "Modem" below your Minivigor. I use it also and it is running fine. But there is perhaps another problem: When I bought it first it was delivered with an old driver. If you have installed it you have first to deinstall the wrong software, than take the better one from Draytek homepage. The easiest way to delete is, boot under OS 9 and drag in trash. |
