Odd SCSI Problem.. Please read! |

I've noticed a odd SCSI problem with Jaguar (10.2.3). System is a Powerbase 200 w/G3 400mhz (OC'd to 450mhz, 5:2 180mhz Cache Ratio), 144mb RAM. I don't know if anyone else can help me here. Jaguar properly loads and uses my SCSI just fine- but ONLY if I have physically powered down and back on the system. If I simply "restart", then, the SCSI does not appear to load or whatever- none of my SCSI devices "appear" and actually function. Doesn't matter how many times I reboot, the SCSI only kicks in if I power down and back on again.. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I had a major problem, as the SCSI didn't work when Jaguar rebooted juring the Installation and asked for the second CD- I had to use my USB CDRW drive to get the second disk loaded... Is there any chance of this problem being fixed- or am I the only one? Thanks, Keven Tipping |

I've dealt with SCSI a long time. This sounds more like the drive itself may either be pegged wrong and fails to respond to a warm-boot, or the drive itself is defective to that effect. If you have another known-working drive, big enough to hold OSX, I'd try again from scratch; and see what happens. |

I have noticed odd variations on this, but it has never proven to be a problem of more than minor inconvenience for me. I had not noticed any need to power off completely, but I have had instances of SCSI devices not being available after a reboot, but another reboot (warm) always fixed the issue. Since I leave my system on all the time, I rarely encounter even the minor glitches I have seen. I suspect there may be a problem with your particular machine, although I have concluded that OS X does poll SCSI only once, during startup, to see who/what is there, and cannot be made to re-poll, as least not by any means I've found yet. |
