Tempo Trio + WD 200 GB HD == No Go |

Here's something fun for the people here to try and solve... I have a Sonnet Tempo Trio, and I get the following error when trying to boot OS X (any version) from either my DVD-ROM drive (previously bootable with my older Sonnet Tempo ATA/66 card) or my Western Digital 200 GB Special Edition HD: Error Generated by Open Firmware: "No bootable HFS volume..." "Cannot load deblocker package" The second is repeated over and over again until OF just locks up and freezes, requiring me to do a hard reset (turn power off, wait, turn power back on). When I tried using Apple Software Restore to clone my 10.2 CD to a spare HD partition (within the first 8 GB) to boot the installer that way, I got as far as the Apple logo screen, then got a kernel panic immediately afterward. I tried making sure the ATI ROM XTENDER was in the AppleNDRV folder, and even making sure the UltraTek133.kext file was in place, but to no avail. Is there a problem booting >137 GB HDs, or from any drive while a >137 GB HD is attached to a Tempo Trio? I'm using Firmware 3.5.0, which is required for large drive support under OS 9 and OS X. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really want to use OS X on this nice new Drivezilla for its speed enhancements. |

Well, I've reformatted in OS 9.1, and it's still no go. I get to teh Apple logo screen, then it freezes. No KP text, no verbose mode (even though XPF is set specifically for verbose), just a total freeze. There's gotta be something with firmware 3.5.0 and booting off >137 GB HDs, because I can't get this to boot at all into OS X, even off the CD while my 200 GB HD is connected. Take out the 200 GB and it's fine. But I bought this HD both for its space, and just as importantly, it's speed, so I would like to see the Tempo Trio's claim of supporting large capacity HDs made true. Remember, there's no claim that the Tempo Trio "cannot boot >137 GB HDs" yet on Sonnet's site, so it stands to reason that it should be able to. Sonnet's working with me on this one though, as more and more people are going to be going the Drivezilla route in the near future. I'll let y'all know if I progress further. Or if anybody has some more advice for me, please post here. :) |

Had the same error with a Trio and an 80 GB drive. I had tried formating the drive in both OSX and 9.2. Ryan suggested formating in 9.1, which solved the problem. I'm now using a single 80 GB partition and it seems to be significantly faster than my SCSI devices. Good luck. |
