Question on installing 10.2 |

Hi, Right now I'm running 10.1.5 smoothly on my 9600 (832 MB RAM, G3 400MHz Sonnet, ATI Radeon 7000) but since more and more new software is stating Jaguar as the minimum system required I was thinking of upgrading to 10.2. Before I started on this however, I was hoping to get some tips on how to do this. Can I simply start up in OS X and install 10.2 over 10.1.5? Or is there more to it than that? I also heard that sometimes 10.2 and the ATI Radeon 7000 give problems together, is this true? Thanks for any info, Jonck |

I down-loaded xpostfacto on my g4 to use on a 7600 with an xlr8 350 g3 upgrade board installed running 9.1. I get only some text documents and no program to run, when the .sit expands. What has gone wrong. Thanks LJ |

Jonck, You got it right, Use Xpostfacto just like you did when you installed 10.1 before. One option would be to install 10.2 over your 10.1.5. Another option if you have the disk space would be to do and "Archive and Install". This is available in the installer under Options when you select the destination disk in 10.2 installer. This saves your existing system files and then gives you the option to keep existing users and groups, homes, and network settings. Good Luck, Ed |

Hi, Thanks for your reply. So the procedure will be: Start up in OS 9, through XPF run the 10.2 installer over my 10.1.5 install. Would this be correct? Thanks, Jonck P.S. I may be sounding a bit paranoid, if so, this is true :-) Last time I tried installing OS X it cost me about a whole week of frustration before I had everything running, so I'm hoping that proper preparation will prevent this. Thanks for any info! |

Far as I know, you still have to do an XPostFacto install of 10.2 (be sure to use the current version) because the supporting files needed to run 10.2 on the unsupported 9600 are different than they were under 10.1.5, and you'll need XPF to install them or 10.2 will not run. |
