Does OS 10.2.3 has to be installed on the first partition? I have a HD partitioned in two and on the first partition I have OS 9.1 and the second half I put OS 10.2.3 , it works fine most of the time but i cannot get the ink(well) thing to work. it does work on the other OX 10.2.3 that I have on completely seprate drive, I also have some startup crashes. Any suggestions? Gabby |

my experience is similar to RWBorn's. I installed 10.2 to a 20GB partition of an 80GB WD SE drive using an Acard ATA/133. I replaced the Acard with an Sonnet ATA/100, which detects the drive as an ATA device, and installed the 10.2.3 update with no problem. |

My experience is somewhat contradictory: for installing 10.2 I was forced to make this well known 8Gig partition at the beginning of the ATA Drive (via Tempo Trio), but after having installed this, the Copy Cloner copy of the whole thing on the next, much larger partition boots and functions just fine. Hi Ken, Thanks a lot. I do have SCSI drives. My 10.2.3 on the completely separate drive is working great, its just the one that is on the partitioned drive is a little strange. 10.2.3 and SCSI drives do not go together that well I think. Ur problems s/b solved a little bit with the RAM but probably not a whole lot. Tell me ur specs. My spec: PTP Pro w/ Newer Tech 400 G4 with Adaptec 29160N card, three SCSI drives. one has only 9.2 (4.5 gig), one has both 9.1 and OS X 10.2.3 (36 gig) and one has only OS X 10.2.3 (73 gig). I hope OS X does not need to be installed in the first partition in which case I will have to reformat and re-partition the middle drive (36 gig). Gabby |

Gabby, When I did an install, the installer forced me to install on a partition which was within the first 8 Gb. A partition of exactly 8 Gb (8192 Mb) was too large, but 8191 Mb worked. From what I've seen in other posts here, true IDE drives require that the boot partition be within the first 8 Gb, but for SCSI drives, this may not be the case. Check some of the other posts here, as there have been other discussions about this. I'm still being plagued with freezing problems, even after installing OS X 10.2. Someone here suggested that I might be a bit short on RAM, so I've ordered another 256 Mb to bring me up to 512 Mb. I'll report back on my experience after installing the additional memory. |
