Specs: PowerTower 180e | 2GB hard disc | Sonnet Tempo HD 20GB partitioned | Sonnet Crescendo G3 PCI Card | 400MHz Tango Firewire/USB | RAM: 256MB | OS 9.1 Is there anyone out there with this machine that has managed to get Xpostfacto to work? I cannot get my set up to boot on the OSX disc after going throught the XPF routine. I've tried just about everything. Even bought Sonnet's PCI X Installer—no luck. HELP!!! |

That was my next suggestion, try without the Tempo card. |

mp, I don't have your configuration, but I've also had to struggle quite a bit until I got either XPF or Sonnet's installer to work (currently, I figured out how to get both of them to work). I'd suggest pulling out the Tempo HD card, and trying again to install to the 2 Gb SCSI drive. In general, when I had problems, I tried to make my system configuration as generic and simple as possible until things started working, and then added components later. |

Hey marcush! thanks for your continued interest in helping me solve my problem. I have tried a lot of different things now but the latest was using XPF and trying to install on the internal 2GB SCSI hard disc. I got a bit further this time with the verbose mode on and throttle set to 4 I got a lot of text flashed up on the screen ending with "CGS NEWconnection cannot connect to server". It then asked me to restart which I did and then low and behold the infamous OSX grey screen but no revolving didy at the bottom just the grey screen and then back to verbose mode with the same message as before only this time no opportunity to restart. So I shut down and the reboot with the option key down to get back into 9.1. |

A base OSX install without the foreign language files should fit on a 2GB disk. Just an option. Before answering your second question let me ask a clarifying question first. The Tempo HD you speak of is it a Sonnet PCI card with a small notebook hard drive mounted on the card with a bracket? If so then this is the Sonnet Tempo HD that I am thinking of. The card will also have a connector aligned with the top edge of the card. The connector is an ATA/133 interface. You can connect an PC IDE drive to this card to run in your Power Tower with this. I have a Sonnet Tempo ATA/100 card with 2 hard drives and a DVD burner attached to mine. I thought you might be having installation trouble because of the unusual configuration of this card, especially if you are trying to install to the notebook drive mounted on it. That's why I suggested trying the SCSI drive. If you have an IDE drive handy you could try attaching it to the card and attempting the install. Now, please describe in as much detail as you are able precisely what the sequence of events were when you tried to do the installation. |

I am trying to install to a partitioned Tempo HD with 7.9GB on the first partition. I have read that the 2GB on my internal hard disc would be too small for OSX. Not correct? What is IDE? Can I buy an internal IDE disc drive that would be compatible with my PowerTower 180e and OSX? Thanks for your response. |

Which disk are you trying to install to? The Tempo HD is a notebook hard drive attached to the card right? It may be that that is a hardware variable that XpostFacto can't cope with. I would attempt the install to your 2GB disk, or another SCSI or IDE disk if possible. |
