Is this a glitch I have to live with? Is no sound a problem everyone knows about or is there a work around? The sound preference panel says I'm connected to a build-in audio controller but I'm not hearing any. When I got the system loaded there was sound coming out of the speaker. |

Same here. I have a Nakamichi 5 Disk CD Changer (SCSI-2) which won't play CD's nor rip from them, despite the drive having both a Audio jack (that works in OS 9.1) connected to my mobo and the ability to play the audio through the SCSI bus... All 5 CD's work just fine at the same time- no problem there. My NEC 8x SCSI Drive did the same thing.. I suspect it is some bug or omision in the code of something somewhere, I can't figure out a thing with this sort of stuff. I just use my external USB Liteon drive for audio- works and sounds perfect. (via hacked Diskrecording plugin). |

Yes, I'm using the Matshitsu Apple CD ROM. I don't know what a disk/drive controller is. The CD Rom is hooked up to my SCSI data bus and it has an address. Is there any way to get this to work reliably? |

Just out of curiosity what kind of disk drive/controller is your OSX system riding on? Your description does sound like the typical OSX sound problem... Marty |

I'm using the Apple CD that came with the machine. I rebooted and it started playing the CD but when I went to load another program it shut off again and wouldn't play. |

I assume that you are using an Apple-compatible CD-ROM drive? My J700 came with a non-compatible CD-ROM drive that worked with XPF to install OS X 10.2, but would not work with iTunes to play CDs. |
