Has anyone got a clue when those cards will be available? I'm keen on getting one of those cards for my 8500/120 and testing them under OS 10.2 in comparison to the Sonnet G4/800 in my 8600... |

The reason for only one listing for the 7500 is because it was only sold at one speed: 100 Mhz. It wasn't until the 7600 that it became a 120 Mhz 604, running a 40 MHz bus. Anyway, the G3/800 will be mostly decent compared to the G4/800, but without the extra L3 cache and Altivec unit, it will pale in comparison in OS X. That, and the G4 literally doubles the memory throughput on old macs like ours. My G3/400 got roughly 50 MB/sec. The G4/800, while it worked for the two days I could use it before it went wanker on me, clocked in at 104 MB/sec memory throughput (Interleaved, of course). OS X takes far better advantage of G4s than OS 9 ever did, and if you can spare the price difference, you'll feel the difference if you use a lot of OS X. :) - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

You're right. I should have looked more closely. The Apple Spec Database shows the 8500 and 9500 bus running at 40, 44, 45 and 50 MHz depending on the speed of the processor. There is only one listing for the 7500 at 50 MHz. |

I may be mistaken but I believe the 8500 family has a variable bus speed mine is running at 50mhz with an XLR8 - G3 - 500 |

The 8500 has a 40 MHz bus and the 8600 has a 50 MHz bus. Try comparing both cards with both computers so we can see how the bus speed affects each card and what extra performance the G4 gets without giving it an unfair bus speed advantage. |
