Greetings to all.. Just wondering- is there any form of a HD Max limit for a Macintosh? I know most (if not all) PC's have some sort of crazy LBA limiting factors, but, as I know, a Mac does not have LBA to deal with.. I have a 40gb drive in my Powerbase mac now, works just fine. However. I am eying up a new 120gb drive.. Is there any limit(s) that I should be aware of when purchasing a HD? |

Tippingj, If you are only looking at 120 GB or lesser HDs, then any Mac (or recent PC) can handle it. It's drives larger than 137 GB (128 GB in some systems) that have to have an updated ATA controller to work with. I have a Western Digital 200 GB SE HD (phew, too many acronyms!), and on any computer at all right now, it requires a seperate ATA controller card (mine came with one for the PC), such as the SIIG ATA/133 (recommended), or Sonnet ATA/133 (Last Resort - I'm seeing major probs with their current cards). So if you're just going for a 120 GB HD, by all means do so. It'll be fine on any Mac's ATA bus (or IDE controller card). It will work just fine in both Mac OS 9 and OS X. Enjoy! - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |
