Can anyone explain why my G4/450 DP, 10.2.4, can't/won't access the 9.2.2 drive on my 7300/180 G4/350 running 10.2.3 under XPF? I have set up a user with access to the 7300 and can link to it from the G4 and access files on the 10.2.3 drive by placing an alias of that drive in the user's folder. But when i try to access the 9.2.2 drive using the same technique, I get a message telling me to "insert the drive, wait for it to come up on the desktop, and try again". The only difference I can see, apart from the obvious OS difference, is that the 9.2.2 drive was formatted in HFS, while the 10.2.3 drive is HFS+. Also, the 7300 won't let me change the ownership of it's 9.2.2 drive and shows it as "unknown". ?????????????????????? |

Just to check in....... I reconfigured my Users (Accounts) in OS X and logged in from the remote machine as the Administrator and everything is cake. And the format of the disk did NOT seem to matter. I did reformat my disk to HFS+, but received the same message - that it couldn't be displayed. It wasn't until I changed the Users as above that I was able to access everything on the server. Thanks for all help and comments, m. |

Hi kailmusic: I share your frustration. I eventually had to assign an IP numeric address to each machine ("client" and "server" - or in my case my OS X machine to my 9.x machine or vice versa) to get them to talk to one another. Neither I nor my Mac/internet guru know why but it worked. Lastly, I had no trouble in getting my OS X machine to mount an HFS formatted disk. Granted, the drive was connected to an Adaptec SCSI card but it still mounted. Lonnie |

I just think that you have and an other deference. The DP macs uses a newer version of MACOS ROM file. Try to find a newer version and update it. This could fix your problem |
