jesus f'n christ. a week of bs 25+ hrs, $20 for a spare computer, $$$ for speedtools. didnt need any of it but 'exit' i never chose single user blah blah. please update the install directions. oh, $10 for the forum too. damn. Thanks for putting out xpostfacto. but man a little more documentation would be helpful. Specifically hardware specific, and of course, a sortable faq and forum and searchable too. exit. damn. |

On your second post you mention that restart ends at a prompt "sh- 2.05a#. This is the prompt one gets when booting into single-user mode. I can't remember the exact command (I think it is exit) but this will allow the boot process to continue. The other option is to reboot back into 9 and relaunch XPostfacto. This time be sure that single-user mode is deselected (checkmark is absent). Hopefully this will allow your boot process to continue. |

may seem to be obvious but check your internal cables, I seem to remember someone waaaay back in the forum that was having a similar problem and found a damaged scsi cable.. like minor abrasions or cuts something like that and replaced their cable and all was well. I have much the same setup as you except on an 8500 tho I can't remember the speed of my CD it may be a 12 or 24X Had a 600 but lucked up on the faster one and switched it. I had some SCSI problems when I upgraded to Jaguar but it was from an install error of my own making. tried to use XPF to install from an upgrade disk on to a drive that didn't have X already on it so my extentions went to the wrong drive so I lost my external SCSI buss until I figured it out with the help of the forum. Good luck it is probably something simple we are overlooking. Jim |

ok upgraded to hard disk speedtools 3.5. no change. tried all permutations of cd on external cd on internal. destination on external...blah blah. still the unknown scsi device5. so pulled ram and vram outta powercenter, put it into the barebones 7200 from arc store for $19. fire up 7200 w/ my 4 gig as the non boot drive. (the 7200 did have a 500 meg drive with os8 installed, but baredly) had to setup filesharing w/my xp box to install drive setup. installed fresh apple driver and reinitialized. threw back into powercenter. no avail again. tried external scsi native, external scsi on scsi card.. blah blah. nothing. Please help. |

reposting: RE: Power Computing PowerCenter Difficulties February, 21, 2003 6:44 AM aticusjunk . i am having problems installing 10.2 onto my power computing powercenter 120. i have a xlr8 carrier card w/400 mhz g3 & 384 meg of ram, and am using a ati acaimvr video card. I have a usb card and a voodoo3 card, both are pulled. I am using an external scsi yamaha 6x4x16 burner that boots fine. My hard drives are the original 1 gig and a scsi 4gb. 4gb is destination drive. Upon restart, grey new apple screen, text screen with several errors, most seem to be the predicted ones. I end up with a prompt "sh-2.05a#". I have the log from the pref file and i can take a digital pic too. last few lines are (time)mach_init[2]: started with uid=0 (time) init: unrecocgnized flag '-?' (time)ignoring excess arguements root device is mounted read-only filesysem checks skipped (time) sh- 2.05a# Thanks for any help Jay |
