my 2x apple cdrom gets the "waiting for root device" error in X (on the restart from the X cd, in another drive). which scsi apple cdroms work ok? 8x? Or, do I just have to remove the 2x to install X, and then can put it back? I am now going to try that scenario. |

My 8500 has an Apple 24x SCSI CD-ROM that works flawlessly in both 9.2.2 and 10.2.3. There is also a 4G drive and a Zip drive on the same bus-actually the faster SCSI bus. Each drive has the stock SCSI settings: 3, 0, and 5 as I recall. |

Hi lexxel: All I can pass on to you is that I had to drop back to a 4x Apple CD-ROM (original equipment in a PM8500) from the 24x CD that I'd put in my machine to make Riven playable. Once I did that I had no problems. As nickis-que noted, termination of the SCSI chain(s) seems to be crucial as well. ltking |

I have used both an 8X and a 12X Apple SCSI CD drive with success |

Lexxel, I had alot of trouble with my 8x Scsi drive until I played around with the terminaters. It seems that the Zip drive on my machine had to have the termination and not the CD rom. It is vudoo in there, so good luck. Marc |
