Daystar Millennium - G3/500 or G4/400 |

I've got a Daystar running Jaguar quite nicely with a Newertech G3/500, and recently came upon a Powerlogix G4/400 card in my pile of stuff. Would I see any benefit at all with the G4, assuming of course the loss of 100Mhz is really worth it in the first place? Regards |

Since it is a Powerlogix card you should have the potential to overclock the card to at least 450Mhz. With the processor speed gap narrowed plus the alvtivec optimizations in OSX itself you should see a good increase in performance over the G3. I went from a G3/500 to an xlr8 G4/450 last year and thought it was a great improvement. Last August I upgraded again to a Sonnet G4/800 and got another nice performance boost. I'd say go with the G4. I have a Power Tower Pro with 1GB of RAM. Our machines share a similar architecture so you would have similar results. Game's will run better as well as multimedia apps. |
