Atto scsi card strangeness (Is it haunted?) |

• System 9600 with 4 drives. Two on the internal bus, one on external bus, one on Atto card. • I never had any problems (4 months with 10.1.5 and 1 month with 10.2) switching between X and pre-X systems with X on the internal and external bus's. • Then I put X onto a drive hooked up to the Atto card. • Now no matter what I do, I cannot boot back into any pre X system (8,8.5, 9.1,9.2) on any bus (internal, external, or Atto) unless I remove the Atto card. I can't even get the computer to start off of an install cd for a pre-X system. No happy mac, nothing just grey screen. • I zapped pram, replaced the battery, pressed the cuda and after much fiddling could occasionally get a pre-X system to come up but if I tried to reboot, it would go back to grey screen again. • If I pull the Atto card, it boots fine into any system on any partition on any drive. • Now to get back to the Atto card and anything hooked up to it I first boot into X on a drive on the internal bus, power down, install the Atto Card, reboot into X on the internal bus and then reboot into X on the Atto card. I had used this card for over a year with systems 8.6, 9.1, and 9.2 on it with X on an internal drive/bus. But now that X has been used on it the presence of the card, even with the X drive disconnected, seems to stop booting back into any pre-X system on any drive. Something on the card has changed. I use 10.2 most of the time but occasionally need to get back into 9.1 to do some work. Pulling the card to use 9.1 and then reinstalling the card to get back into 10.2 is a drag. I could pitch the card but it is a nice speed bump with a good drive on it. |

Thanks Tony, but right now I am operating X on the Atto card and with the revision 1.6.6. I flashed the card long before I ever put X onto any drive and have never had any problems until I put X onto a drive hooked up to the card. I can't flash the card to another revision because I need to boot into 9.1 to do that and the card will not allow me to boot into 9. I can boot into 9 or 8.5 or what ever if I pull the card. If I pull the card, no problems running any os. With the card I can only boot into X. This never happened until I put X onto a drive hooked up to the card. |

Reflash the ATTO card to firmware version 1.4.x or 1.5. Beyond 1.5, the ATTO firmware does NOT support OS X. |

xpf- 2.2.5 Atto Card- Express pci, was stock Apple then flashed rom way back when to 1.6.610 Machine 9600, 512megs ram, powerlogix g4 450 This problem only started when I started using a drive with X on it on that card. It is as if X has changed the firmware of the card. |
