USB Keyboard Woes |

Greetings to all. I just got my Apple Pro keyboard from Apple today. Great little unit. However.. I have two problems. First, in OS X, my USB Card isn't shown under USB Devices (No USB Devices Detected), despite all USB working (Entrega 2 Port PCI Mac). All keys on the keyboard work, however, under Keyboard, I have NO option to set the programmable keys (F1-F15) as I do under OS 9.1. Second- the Eject button does nothing. I have a external USB CDRW and a Internal SCSI Drive (both work), but the eject does nothing. Same for OS 9.1. Does anyone know how I might go about fixing these problems? Programmable keys and having the Eject button would be nice.. |

One other thing to watch out for is system sleep. If your systen is allowed to sleep you can't wake it up with a USB keyboard and mouse. |

There is a freeware utility called Xkeys which you can pick up from VersionTracker which will let you program your function keys a la OS 9. Eject key doesn't work on old world Macs but you could use the above utility to assign a function key to invoke one of the Applescripts that are available (also on VersionTracker) to eject removable media. Control-eject does work as a substitute for the power key to perform a quick shutdown/sleep/restart. Apple System Profiler in OS X does not handle PCI USB cards so you will never see your USB devices listed. However this bug is limited to ASP, it doesn't affect the operation of USB devices in any other way. |
