Stuck with OSX...Startup disk cannot be changed |

My problem is the reverse one compared to the another thread... I noticed recently, that I cannot change the StartupDisk/System anymore. The X-side ControlPanel seems to work like it should but reboot results booting MacOS X again. I can boot the OS9, however, only when pressing the option key. I remeber that this feature was once ok but much have chanced since then: X updates, maybe the feature never worked with Jaguar; I updated OS9 to version 9.2.2 with the hack by kby (www.os9forever.com);I have created new users with administration rights; file sharing (server) is on etc.. Any hints? Will it help to delete some preferences files? My system is 7600/G3/300; OS9.2.2 and OSX 10.2.4 in separate partitions. |

I have 3 drives, and have put OS X 10.2.3 on one partition, OS 9.1 on another, OS 9.2.2 on still another, and have OS X 10.1.5 on still a 4th. I use the 9.2.2 ONLY as classic mode, the 9.1 as my boot-into-9 partition, and haven't used the 10.1.5 lately, so will shortly ditch that. I find that I can boot 10 only by using XPF, as expected. But I can boot the 9.1 partition either by option key or by startup disk from 10.2.3. It seems to work great for me on a 7600/400 MHz G4/1 Gb. |

Have you considered not using 9.2.2? Sonnet provides the following warning about its use, recommending using 9.1: Required Software: • Mac OS 9.1 • Mac OS X (Version 10.0 through 10.2 CD) or Mac OS X Server (Version 10.0 through 10.2 CD) IMPORTANT! Mac OS 9.1 must be installed on your system for you to install this software. Do not attempt to install Mac OS 9.2.x on your system; it does not support your system hardware, is not supported by this software, and is not required to install Mac OS X (Version 10.2). If you have any version of OS 9 prior to 9.1, you can update to 9.1 free using software available from the Apple website. For the most current information regarding this software, check the onscreen Read Me notes of this installer. (From http://www.sonnettech.com/downloads/osx_upgrade_sw.html , realizing this may be offensive to XpostFacto users ... just provided as some additional info to ponder ...). Not an expert, Bill C. |

does look like it's starting to boot 9 and then reboot into OSX? I have found it's good to make a small partition (or seperate drive) with OS9 on it. This seems to confuse things less... Marty |
