10.2.5 is faster |

It seems to me that 10.2.5 has improved performance. One thing I noticed right away is that the interface seems faster. For instance, the Genie effect is almost as smooth as with Quartz Extreme enabled. I had developed a problem with DVD playback during the last few weeks where the screen was solid red and I could only get the video to appear by starting and stopping the movie a few times. Once I could see the video it was grainy. Deleting the DVD player prefs did not help. I was gearing up to do a clean install when the update became available. Finally, Menus open quicker and, for lack of better words, it just feels better. Opinions? |

I miss the speed but I downgraded to 10.2.4 for multimedia & sound. What a pain downgrading. I had never installed OSX with my Sonnet 133 card and ran into the first 8GB problem. I'm convinced it's an installer glitch. |

1) Loss of printer switchability: What I hadn't realized was that the 10.2.5 update had somehow wiped out my Device identification, only, in Print Center. Had to delete Epson Printer from Print Center listing and reconfigure. Now OK. 2) Still can't get recognition of external SCSI bus in 10.2.5, although OK on rebooting in 9.1. ---? It is faster but some things are getting nastier. ATI drivers in 10.2.5 seem pretty stupid regarding DVD playback. The video is often off center or off the edge of the viewer window. 10.2.3 was pretty good. Sound sucks. It has a tendency to chop out when playing some QT movies or doing other things. This is not the problem with adjusting the sound nor is it IDE sound problems but it's the sound manager not liking some sounds and it's really really dinking with me. |

I just double-checked the operation of my scanner, an Umax S-6E, and it still works. 10.2.5 is a winner. I think it's been the best update since 10.2 was released. Nothing has broken and the system performance has improved quite noticeably. |

I have a 7300/G4/400 (Sonnet) and have no problems with either SCSI bus. Check the cables and termination again. |

10.2.5 is remarkably faster on my 7300/G4/800 (Sonnet Crescendo); however, two downsides occurred: 1) I lost capability of switching printers in Print Center (ethernet connected laser & usb-to-parallel connected Epson Stylus Photo). Print Center recognizes only whatever I had last selected in the Chooser during my previous boot into OS 9. 2) My external SCSI bus (and peripherals) are no longer recognized --a real loser-- (the internal SCSI bus is recognized, however). |

I installed Safari beta 2 tonight and it is a definite improvement. Scrolling is pretty much silky smooth and the addition of tabs brings it closer to replacing or at least being used as often as Camino. |

I noticed the same thing about the Genie Effect. In fact, I'm not sure if PCI Extreme didn't slow it down. Tom |
