XPF fails on Powerbook G3 install |

Posted this on 3/7 and got nary a response from anyone. Thought I'd try again. I'm trying to use XPostFacto 2.2.5 to install 10.2.4 on my G3 Series Powerbook (Wallstreet) G3/300 320MB ram. I installed a new 20GB HD and partitioned it as you suggested, leaving the first 8GB as one partition and installing OS 9.2.2 on the second partition (using OS9forever). The OSX installer runs for awhile, but when it gets to "copying InfoPlist.strings" it stalls and gives me an error message that reads "Could not complete your request because there was a problem writing to NVRAM." I first encountered this when I only had 192MB in the machine, so I just replaced the top ram with a new 256 dimm. Same error. Any suggestions? |

LOL! One last thing... Reset your PRAM if you are getting an error in your PRAM. Boot up and hold CMD+OPT+Apple key and let it chime 3 times. Then boot into OS9 and reset all the control panels. THEN try the OS X install again. |

Oh, you also don't need OS9 forever to install 9.2.2 on a Wallstreet Powerbook either. I have it running fine on my unit. |

The Wallstreet is NOT the original G3 Powerbook. That was a different model that looks like a 3400... The problem here is that you MUST install in the first 8gb partition. NOT the second one. That's why you are having problems. Once OS X is installed in the first partition, you can put MacOS 9 on the second one, and store your data and even MacOS X programs there. But the OS itself must be within the first 8gb partition. Hope this helps. And no, you don't need XPF to install it. |

Wallstreet runs OSX natively just fine |

I have installed and upgraded MacOS X on my Wallstreet and it works great natively. You do have to install OSX on an 8 GB or less partition that is the first partition on your hard drive. No need to use XPF at all. Currently running 10.2.5. Only problem is, if you want to use a wireless card you have to use a third-party driver. Although cards such as Orinoco are supported by the Apple AirPort software in OS9, they are not in OSX. Wallstreet (Powerbook G3 Series, Model M4753) is not the first G3 Powerbook. If you have an earlier model (original Powerbook G3), then you should use XPF. |

bralston, the Wallstreet was the original G3 powerbook, and is the only one not supported by Apple under OS X. I am not sure how to do this one, randyb. I'd check that you had the latest firmware for it, but beyond that, you are over my head. |

i don't think to many people here understand what XPF does (including myself) so we cannot easily troubleshoot something we do not understand, the only person who could help you is Ryan, and God only knows what he is up to now (i though he was going to be out a few weeks not a few months!). He is normaly verry helpfull and stops by a few times a week to help out but his real job just through him alot of work so he is going to be out untill he finishes up with that. But when he gets back he will have some catching up to do, with firewire booting still in the works and Panther about to come out. |

Ummm, why are you using XPostFacto with a Wallstreet? I thought the wallstreet supported OS X without any help? -Ben |
