Do u guys think we should pay a little fee (like we pay for this forum) for XPF development? We need new versions right? I think Ryan needs some motivation. Hey Ryan what do u think? R u going to keep our hopes and dreams alive for the new OS X (panther) due this fall? GAbby |

I belive that the most importat enhancement is firewire boot. I will be MORE than glad with a 2.30 version with FW boot support. That will let us get FW to IDE bridges and be able ot use the FW card as an IDE controller. My 8500 only has three PCI slots and I don't want to spend one of them on an IDE, specially now that SATA is going to replace PATA. |

i found that it helps the GUI when you have more than a few Apps open at the same time, but it makes intence graphics play worse, alot worse because these old video cards were not made to handle these new intencive graphics that we have now. If you don't intend to play games requiring intence graphics, go for it, if you do want to play games don't bother because you have to restart after enabling or disabling and it is just not worth that, To me, but i still use it and i just don't play games that were meant to play on new hardware. |

There is a "PCI Extreme" application out there (if I'm remembering correctly) that will turn on Quartz Extreme for PCI cards that otherwise fit the bill. People who have tried it report that it improves some operations and causes problems with others, so YMMV. |

I'd be happy to pay, also. XPF is the best thing that's ever happened in my computing life. I'd like to enable Quartz Extreme, too - unless that is impossible on OW machines. |

The main problem with XPF development lately has been that my life has gone out of balance for a while. I'm not a full-time programmer--in my day job, I'm a civil servant 3 days a week (I'm a lawyer for the Canadian government, assigned to the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food). Usually this works pretty well, but there was a "big project" in my other job that required pretty much total immersion for about 6 weeks. And, of course, having run myself into the ground, I then managed to pick up a nasty cold that hung on for another couple of weeks. But now I'm starting to catch up again, and the "big project" is slowing down enough that I can start getting my life back in balance. (And, the government owes me a whole whack of time off). So money isn't really the issue--it's just that my juggling act broke down a bit for a while. But I am confident that I can get all the balls in the air again soon :-) I anticipate that XPF will need some changes for Panther, because every major Mac OS X upgrade has required some XPF changes so far. But I will be very highly motivated to make it work, since I don't own any supported machines :-) |

I don't think it would be possible to charge for XPF in it's current form. It is based on open source Darwin and likely needs to stay that away in order to keep Apple legal happy. Some of the features we would like to have are often held up waiting for Apple to release their code to open source Darwin. Sometimes a solution is found that can't be released becuse Apple legal would shut the project down.So it has to be re-written to keep Apple happy. This all takes time and sometimes extra time. People need to realize we are very lucky to have Ryan and that he is smart enough to be able to keep Apple legal happy. Will S |

Yes, I would *gladly* pay to continue this development , if it'll help keep things moving. |

I'd certainly be happy to pay a shareware fee for XPF to get some of the proposed new features implemented and hopefully to retain compatibility with future versions of OSX. Looking back at the feature list for XPF 3.0 I'm concerned that maybe Ryan is trying to implement too many things at once. I'd rather see the list prioritized so that we get at least some functions sooner rather than later. |

I'd gladly pay if that was what was necessary to keep development going. |
