I have a PowerMac8600 and am running OS 10.2.5. I still haven't found a way to get my CD Rom to work. Are there any drivers out there? Help! P.S. I just installed a Sonnet G4 800. It was a breeze. |

Only the last device on the bus should be terminated. The CD-ROM and built in hard drive (on top of the power supply) are on the same SCSI bus. The last device on the bus is the built in hard drive. So only the built-in hard drive should be terminated. Try the following: 1) in the terminal application, type the following command: ioreg -l -w 0 > ioregdump.txt 2) open the ioregdump.txt file (located in your home folder) in TextEdit 3) Find the text "mesh@" and copy everything from that line up to the next device (which is probably "sixty6") and paste it here so we can look at it and compare it with our own and see what kind of CD-ROM you're using. |

Hmmm. I have an 8600 & my CD-ROM works fine. We need more info. Use Apple's Profile Utility or Disk First Aid or Disk Setup to look for the SCSI id's on the internal SCSI buss. R U the original owner and did U get the 8600 new? If not, the drive might have been replaced with a non Apple CD-ROM drive. More importantly, if it has been replaced or worked on, the drive may have put back in with a different SCSI address and/or w/o termination set to on. Have you added any SCSI drive on the internal SCSI buss? If so, check the SCSI ID's to check if there is a conflict. Check also if another drive has the jumper set for termination - it shouldn't. Only the CD-ROM should have the termination jumper set. Mac OS X is more picky about SCSI termination than Classic. Hope this helps. --Dwight |

What is the drive manufacturer? If it is a well know manufacturer then you could probably add support for it by editing the device plugin file for the manufacturer with hexedit. However, it would be easier to look on xlr8yourmac.com for already modified device plugin files. You can see what is available by looking in the FAQ section. |
