XPF won't do the install |

Ok, finally got everything set up properly after 2 days of odd behaviors. Opened XPostFacto and everything came up fine. Selected the OS X Install disk, but when I try to pick a drive to install on, it always tells me "unable to find Open Firmware name" and grays out the Install button. I'm in OS 9.1 right now, 2940U2B with two Barracudas in striped RAID. Anyone who can explain what this means, or how to fix it? Thanks! |

Dang. Well, I'll set up my old Cheetah again and boot off that till XPF 3 is done. Thanks for all the hard work! |

It just isn't possible to boot from a RAID in OS X, especially a software-based RAID. Even with a hardware-based RAID, XPF would probably have some trouble figuring out the proper Open Firmware name to get the boot process to work. XPostFacto 3 should help with this (once I get it in a more useable state). XPF 3 has a workaround which allows booting on drives that would not otherwise be bootable (like a RAID or a Firewire drive). I may need to tweak it some to figure out what the correct Open Firmware name is for the drive. I've been out of commission for a bit, but I'm back on the job now. |

Yes, running 9.1 as main OS now. Tried extended format and standard format with HDST(since SoftRAID doesn't support X yet). I've got a copy of 10.0.3, but I just want to get it to boot right now, that's all. I'll do upgrades and tweaking later on. I do have a Miles2 I can set them up on if the 2940 can't be made to work. Still intend to make it run off a RAID, one way or another. |

As far as I know the 2940 doesn't boot Jaguar at all; QWC lists it as "not compatible with OSX". |

Anyone using a RAID setup to Boot? |

Sorry for the double post, but this is the first time I have seen a reference to using RAID and XPF and it interests me since I have several large drives I could use in a RAID setup. |

I am not familiar with RAID setup did you first set them up with 9.1 in the extended format? Jim |
