So here's what's up with me. I bought a g4-350Mhz daughter card from Xl8r, so that I could finally catch up with the rest of the world. I have three hard-drives, the fastest is a Quantum "Medalist", which is the trying to run "jag" on. OS 9 is on two of the disks, both the one I am tyring to install x on, and my external, which is currently running all my system software, and my appl;ications. I have tried both with 9 on the disk and without, and I have formated the drive with hard disk toolkit. I have installed xpostfacto, and gotten it to load all the stuff from the 10.2 disk, but when I reboot, and hit option c, all I end up getting is a flash of the grey apple, and then a circle with a cross through it. I also tried auto-boot, and I ended up with a screen that my monitor couldn't even read. Basically like the monitor was sized incorrectly. I do realize this might be alot of work, to get this running, but I am hoping that someone can direct me a little here. I have basically read the faq, and tried to follow all the suggestions, with the same results... No command line, just a circle with a cross through it. Please, any help would be much appreciated JB a.k.a Feel like a N00B again... |

How did you format your Quantum "Medalist" drive? You should format the drive with Apples drive utilities. If you have any extras in the PCI slots removing them for now could help. RAM and SCSI termination are also comon causes of problems. It would also be helpful if you could post the Xpostfacto log that is generated when you attempt to load Jaguar. |

Hey guys. Thanx for responding so quickly. Still haven't gotten anything to run properly. I did try just letting xpostfacto do it's own thing, and the first time it just went through to that disk i am booting os 9 with. The second time, with the same settings, I basically got a screen full of static that my monitor clicked off on. I then had too remove the pram battery, take out the drive I was trying to install x on, and boot from the CD, and then use startup to use my originally boot drive. Any other things to try? BTW, I am using onboard video with a ViewMate 19", with 4Mb's of installed Vram. -JB |

Hitting the "c" key during boot causes the Mac to try to boot off of the CD-ROM drive ignoring the boot preference set by "XPostFacto." I assume by autoboot you mean restarting using XPostFacto without hitting any keys. What do you mean by it couldn't read? Was there text running off the screen? Does your screen ever make it past the grey screeen to blue? Or, is your screen black with white text? By the way, what kind of monitor do you have, and are you using onboard video? |

It sounds like you might be pressing command-c when you reboot. You don't have to do that--in fact, it could well cause the problem you identify. Try letting XPostFacto do it's thing without the command-c and see what happens. |
