I'm running a 8600/200 with Sonnet G4 800 & Radeon 7000 and a 8500/120 with XLR8 G3 560/280 & Rage 128 under OS 10.2.5. Software set-up is identical. The Rage 128, despite of working with the G3, seems snappier. This is confirmed by XBench and SpeedRun scores, where the G3 & Rage combo scores higher than the G4 & Radeon, except in Open GL. Is it just a fact that the Radeon is crappy in 2D, or may there be any other reason that may cause the Radeon to be that slow? |

i only have one monitor, right now it is DVI but about a month ago i had a VGA and they were both poor. I do have millions of colors, so i will turn that down. With the iTunes visualiser i was getting 30+fps under 10.2.1 now i get (after 10.2.1) about 9- 13 fps. When i got my DVI display it uses 1280 by 1024 instead of 1024 by (something else, can't remember it now) i just tried the visualiszer with thousands of colors and it is worse! it is 3fps and even with iTunes playing everything is slow, i am typing faster than it can disply it. it has never been this slow before. something is wrong. |

Make sure your Display prefpane is set to thousands of colors not millions for speedier 2d performance. Also do you have multiple monitors connected? That seems to be a problem for the Radeon. Marty |

i don't know, i noticed a huge slow down from, i think 10.2.1 to 10.2.2 and up, they never fixed it. i tried extracting drivers from the 10.2.1 update but it did not help. i was stumped after that so i gave up. i would try somethings to get it "back" to speed again, but i just never thought of it on my own, so any suggestions would be nice. |

Well, either a software thing, or the Radeon is really worse than the Rage 128, at least in 2D... |

i have noticed poor profomence with my card as well, for a long time and i have never found the fix for it. it is disappointing but i have no idea what else to do besides fooling with the driver versions and they did not help. I ave looked around, asked questions but nothing useful so i gave up and just figured it was the old card and the slow bus, but you have a worse card in an older computer so it has to be a software thing right? |
