I'm attempting to install OS X on a PowerBook 3400c I get to the OS X installer OK, however, I don't get any disks listed in the 'Select Destination' screen. I have a 3Gb disk with 2 HFS+ partitions (one with 9.1) When the OS X installer is booting I get the following errors: getDependencyListForKmod(): Dependency com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport of com.macsales.iokit.PatchedNDRVSupport is not compatible or is unavailable load_kernel_extension(): Can't get dependencies for kernel extension “com.macsales.iokit.PatchedNDRV Support. IOCatalogue: com.macsales.iokit.PatchesNDRVSupport cannot be loaded I also get lots of DEC21x4 errors If I boot into single user mode and run /usr/libexec/kextd /dev appears to have my hard disk mapped as disk0s, however if I attempt to mount or fsck anything (My OS X partition is on disk0s10) I get a 'IOBlockStorageDriver: Unable to flush cache on media.' All the /dev/disk0s* devices then disappear from /dev. I have attempted using various OS X CD's - 10.0, 10.0.3, 10.1 and 10.1.4 (all originals) I'm completely new to MAC OS and would appreciate any ideas. |

My PowerBook's a Ethernet only model. During boot I get the following: DEC21x4: Unsupported SROM format version (0xa2)! DEC21x4: Error while parsing SROM DEC21x4: Device initialization failed OS X can't see any Ethernet adapters after boot. Looks like I'm going to go for Nick's cardbus option. |

The chip in the Ethernet only machines is a DEC21x4 with an old format of SROM which is not supported by the driver. The driver loads but then fails with an error message about the SROM whilst trying to initialize the interface. |

Nick. Are you sure DEC21x4 errors are due to 3400s w/ ethernet-only hardware? DEC21x4 is a supported configuration. I had thought that 3400s w/ ethernet-only is of another chipset. |

Just a word of warning now you've upgraded to a 40Gb internal disk. Don't use SCSI target disk mode as this will corrupt your disk. The firmware in the 3400 can't support target disk mode on drives greater than 4Gb. Also the DEC21x4 errors suggest you have one of the Ethernet only machines (rather than the one with a built-in modem as well). Unfortunately OSX doesn't support the Ethernet only version so you will probably find you have no networking available. I've successfully used a RealTek 8139 based cardbus Ethernet card on my 3400 to get round this limitation. |

Thanks for the info on the PatchedNDRVSupport errors. I've replaced the 3Gb disk with a 40Gb model and can now install OS X without any problems. Not sure why the installer didn't like the original PowerBook disk - it worked OK with OS 9.1 Thanks go to the XPF author. |

PatchedNDRVSupport is only for computers with built-in video that use the "control" display device. The PowerBook 3400c uses "65550". You can ignore that error. When you get OS X installed, you can remove that kext so you won't see that warning anymore. I think it would be nice if XPostFacto were more selective in what it installs. I don't know why you wouldn't see any disks in the installer. |
