When I start xpost it crashes while "copying mach_kernel". I therefore never get to reboot into OS X to install. I have no PCI cards installed. I am trying to install onto the first 4 GB partition of an 8 GB internal SCSI drive. I also get the same crash when attempting to install on an external SCSI. I have also tried two differenct OS 10.2 install CD's. Should I be trying a 10.1 install CD? Or is there other isssues? |

the G4's are progressively more memory sensitive. What is your memory config. and do you have any old 8 meg DIMMs? I have found many problems with this family are solved by eliminating the old 8 meg DIMMs. Basically we need more info about your system like: how are your drives formatted? With what utility and are you formatted in Mac OS9.1 Standard or Mac OS9.1 Extended? Did you use the Apple Drive Setup or some other drive utiility? Simple little things can cause major problems. |

I've had a similar problem with my PM8500 and Sonnet G4/450 upgrade. After weeks of trying everything I could think of it turned out to be the RAM. Installing new RAM (60ns), one at first might do the trick |

I am using a Sonnet G4 Crescendo Card. I have no other cards installed. I do not get a specific error, just freezes. I may try to install Macsbug it you think it will help. |

XPF will still start the start up proccess even on a per G3 daughter card. But more information about your system would help. |

You don't say what processor is in your 8500. If it is the original 604, 10.2 cannot be made to run, you can only use up to 10.1.5, as Jaguar requires a G3 or G4 processor. |

Hmm. It sounds like a bug in XPostFacto that's getting tickled by something in your setup. If you happen to be a programmer, then MacsBug might give some useful information. Otherwise, it's going to be a little tricky to track down. Do you get a specific error message, or does XPostFacto just quit, or freeze? |
