I've now tried OS X-compatible USB 802.11 adapters from both MacSense and from Belkin. Bottom Line: Belkin is cheaper, has better drivers, gets better reception, and is just more compatible with my system. PMac 7300 w/450 mhz OWC G4 in an XLR8 carrier card with 512 megs of OWC RAM, Radeon 7000. I first bought the MacSense Aeropad. After getting a firmware upgrade (which required mailing it back to MacSense), I finally got it working on OS X using their drivers. But enabling encryption is unreliable (required me to add the configuration application to my Startup Items and putting my encryption password in Keychain). Also, printing via AppleTalk-over-Airport was unreliable. And reception from my base station wasn't anything to brag about. Then I read somewhere that Belkin's USB product had OS X drivers. And it was 30 bucks CHEAPER. So, last week I ordered one. It has solved EVERY SINGLE one of the MacSense shortcomings. Rock solid, great reception, flawless wireless printing, no problems with encryption, and cheaper. Hope this proves useful to others on this great forum. |
