I found that turning off the cache solves the problem on my end, but the system is noticeably slower. I contacted Sonnet about this, and they told me that it appears that I have a defective card. They want me to return my upgrade card for an exchange, but I have a feeling that it will not solve my problem. My luck couldn't be that good. Dennis |

so...i am not crazy! i think when i didn't have any cache enabler installed, i didn't have this problem. i think i will remove cache enablers and see if the DeathWheel is evoked. |

I have this exact problem with my 9600. I have a Sonnet Crescendo G4/800MHz. After booting into OSX, the system runs fine for about 10 minutes, then I get the beachball, and nothing else works. I cannot force-quit anything, and certain things seem to still work until you click on them (the dock, the clock as examples). I can still switch between open apps by clicking on a window in that app (at least ASM changes its icon when I click on different windows), but nothing else is functional. The computer is a stock 9600, fomerly a 9600/200MP. When I decided to upgrade the system, I purchased 12 128MB Ram chips (removing all but two, and leaving them non-interleaved does not solve the problem), a Radeon 7000, and 73GB Hard drive (partitioned into three volumes). The Radeon is the only PCI device installed, and it makes no difference in which slot it is installed. The hard drive is partitioned into a MacOS 9 volume (4GB, first physical partition), a MacOS X volume (4GB, second physical partition), and a 60GB remaining partition. Switching the OS9 and OSX partitions around causes OS9 to be unbootable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dennis |

Yes, that is it vora. Sonnet's cache enabler fixed it for me. I guess it is not working for you? |

I was getting that randomly until I started using Sonnets cache enabler. It is called Sonnet X Tuneup and you can download it here: http://sonnettech.com/downloads/osx_upgrade_sw.html Disable your other cache enablers before installing though. This seemingly has gotten rid of the wheel of death for me. |

advansys has updated flashes for the card. they don't have a dual x/9 boot rom, but my x is not on that bus. it's on the internal apple scsi. so i use the os9 flash for the card. when i reload extensions, then i see the bus. but then, after about 10 minutes, my system freezes with the spinning wheel. it isn't the scsi card, because when the card is withdrawn, i still get the spinning wheel after 10 or so minutes. i think it is related to the L2 cache enabler programs i am using, or something like that. i can't believe nobody else has had this problem! |

Is the Advansys SCSI card even supported by OSX? The only cards I thought were fully supported are from Adaptec, Initio, and ATTO. |

you can try moving the scsi card to another pci slot. I had the same problem until I moved the card to the right slot (the one near the processor card in my 7300) |
