I have OS X 10.1.5 Server installed on a PM7500 with a Sonnet G3 450 mh. The 9 gig scsi drive is full. I have ordered a Sonnet Tempo ATA 133 PCI card and a Maxtor 120 GB Diamond Max Plus. What I am looking for is tips on moving Server from SCSI to ATA in a bootable configuration. Would like to remove SCSI drive and put into another machine. Thanks in advance. |

From the instruction page in "Help" I just copied them all but #6 is what you are looking for- Hope that helps Instructions: You must be logged in as an administrator or root to use CCC. 1. Select a source disk from the Source popup menu. This will populate the "Items to be copied" table with the list of files at the root level of this volume. 2. You may remove items from the "Items to be copied" list that you do not want moved to the new drive. 3. Select a target disk. Target disk selection will be easiest if your drives have unique names. 4. Generally, the default preferences are just fine. However, you may want to check the preferences for advanced features. In particular, CCC 2.0 introduces the ability to synchronize the source to the target, which can reduce the time to perform the copying. 5. Click on the lock to provide your administrative password (required to preserve permissions and ownership of System files), then click on the clone button. 6. If you are cloning to an Old World machine (Beige G3s, for example), you will need to select "Bless Old World Target disk" after the clone procedure has completed. |

In CC in the "File" pull down you will find "Bless Old World Target Disk" and that should solve your ATA boot problem but I would still keep the SCSI drive in the machine. |

I did use CCC 1 to copy to the ATA Maxtor drive. But could not get XPF to boot it. Tried to use disk utility to make a 2 partion drive. But the smallest partition was 8.12 gb. Two large for the 8 Gig installer checks. So, I have left the SCSI drive for boot and the the ATA for User storage. |

You probably need to bless the new drive - look in the menus of CC you will find it there. I had to do it when I cloned MY 9 gig SCSI to a 47 gig SCSI the ide should be the same. I believe the 8 gig thing is an install problem and cloning bypasses it. |

Got the Sonnet Tempo ATA 133 PCI card today. Installed card and drive. Powered up server. It recoginised the drive. I clicked Initialize. Ran the DISKTOOL and set up Extended Format one partition. Used carbon copy cloner to move all files across. Could not get new drive to boot with xpf 2.5. Could this be the 8 mg partition issue? I could try a 8 meg partition for boot and the rest for the server partition. |

Historically there definitly have been problems with audio from ATA drives. Mostly these issues were in OS9, but some problems have also been reported in OSX. Carbon Copy Cloner is the way to go for sure. Make sure you use the correct version for OSX 10.1.5 (10.2 is different). Also, when you format your new drive, I recommend doing so from the drive setup that came with OS9 while booted into OS9. Marty PS I am also updating my OSX server (10.1.5)! but I am going to UWscsi setup. Previously the boot drive has been a 4 gig IBM on the internal fast bus of a PM 8500. I've never had any audio problems with ATA drives. I've gone over completely, though I do keep a backup image of my boot partition on a SCSI drive in case I need to restore it. I think the main problem with sound may be the position of the ATA card. It should optimally be in the 1st PCI slot, nearest the processor. To answer your question, I would use carbon copy cloner to image your new drive with the install on your SCSI drive. |

You may want to keep the SCSI drive available since there are issues with ATA/IDE that I am not sure have been resolved. One is the loss of itunes music when it is based on the ATA drive. I don't remember the others but they were enough so I am totally SCSI and have had no major problems (except self inflicted ones) but you could manually search back through the threads to see if there had been a resolution. Another situation where this forum needs to be searchable to go back to those threads Jim |

You can use Carbon Copy Cloner. Downloadable from Versiontracker |
