after a successful install of osx with xpf, i installed the britannica software for osx. i needed to print some info from the page that i was viewing but osx was not able to print using my printers that i have connected to my 8500. i also tried to direct the osx software to enable the printers but it didn't seen to recognize them. what do i need to do to get osx to recognize the printers that work so very fine when running os 9.1. p.s. i have jaugar installed os 10.2 |

Check out 'Macworld', June 2003, Pg 98, Printer Hints: Legacy LaserWriter- "these devices enable you to link LocalTalk-compatible printers to Macs...". Just another option, but it ain't cheap. good luck- mitch |

I agree with Jim, your best option for the Epson 740 is to use USB (assuming you have a free slot for the card). The Apple LaserWriter, if it uses AppleTalk over a serial interface (called LocalTalk) is not supportable under OSX as the serial interfaces no longer support LocalTalk. You could get a LocalTalk to Ethernet adapter (AsantePrint or something similar) so that you can use your Ethernet interface which will be supported. However, these adapters are quite expensive compared to the probable value of your printer. Alternatively if your LaserWriter has any other interface options we might be able to find a workround. Let me know the model number and I'll advise further. Gimp-print is a free printing utility which you can download from VersionTracker. It uses the CUPS printing system and provides drivers for a host of printers which don't have native support in OSX. Luckily you are already on OS 10.2 as this is the first version of OSX with CUPS support. |

does't the 740 have a usb port? if it does all you need is the USB card, USB cable and driver for the card , I believe the driver for the printer is already in the system. probably get it all for under $30. Hope that helps Jim |

I suspect that you probably have Apple serial printers X does not support Apple serial but I have heard through this forum of success using I believe it is called GIMP Print |

It would help if you told us which printers you have available (and which interfaces they are using if they have multiple options). |
