I know for some of you this is probably rehashing the same thing over and over again, but I have not been able to find the information that I need in the some of the older threads. I have a SuperMac J700 by Umax. I have upgraded the processor to a Sonnet Crescendo PowerPC G3 @ 500MHz. The memory is two 128MB EDO sticks recently purchased from OWC for a total of 256MB. The video card is an ATI Radeon, Mac Edition. This is the card that came out before the 7000. I have three hard drives in this unit, however, the hard drive that I am trying to install to is a SCSI Seagate 9GB which I formatted with the Disk Tools from 9.1. I have set up XPF to have the input device as the keyboard and the output device as the ATI Radeon card. I have also knocked the processing speed down several notches, just in case speed is a problem. Oh yes, I am trying to load OSX 10.2 The problem that I am having is that I am able to start the software load, and I get a reboot into in OSX, this I know as the gray screen with the light gray apple appears. I can hear the disk doing its thing and then after about 15-30 seconds I get the following on my screen: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000US vm_pag_bootstap:63318 free pages mig_table_max_displ = 64 COLOR |

First I want to say 'Thank you, Jim.' Your advice was invaluable. I moved my video card to the 'A' slot and the Sonnet Orange card to the 'B' slot. For good measure I also reset CUDA. When I fired up the the old J700 and ran XPF, BINGO, I was loading OSX. Not only do I have video, but OSX also sees the USB and Firewire ports on the Orange card. I haven't tested the ports as of yet, I am still upgrading and tweeking. I am currently writing this in OSX, and I couldn't be happier. I am no longer jealous of my wife, who has OSX running on her 'Prismo' laptop. Anyway, thanks again for all your help. |

i had the same problem, only 2 PCI slots (the far right 2) on the J700 will work in OSX and i found that the Radeon must also be installed on the left slot of the 2 working ones. By only using the 2 right slots and, if you have more than one PCI card, putting the Radeon in the left of the 2 slots it should work. If you only have the Radeon the just as long as it is in the 2 working slots. Good Luck, Jim |

Sorry about the screw up, but I must have hit the 'Post' button by mistake. As I was saying, the messages on my screen are the following: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000US vm_pag_bootstap:63318 free pages mig_table_max_displ = 64 COLOR video console at 0x8c008000 (640x480x8) After I get these four lines the computer just freezes. I have let it set for as long as 15 minutes thinking that it might be processing something, but it still just sets there, staring back at me. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is? Could it be my vidoe card? Thanks for your help. |
