Hi Folks, Would appreciate your advice on this.....I have installed Asante Ethernet cards into my Power Tower, Mac 9600, and Powerwave and have successfully networked them. (All with Sonnet 800mhz CPUs) The problem is incredibly long startup times, both in OS 9.2.2 and 0S X. Used to take two minutes, now takes 5 minutes to startup. After start up everything works fine. (I found by trial and error that the Asante card will work in only one specific PCI slot for each of the my machines.) Thanks in advance for your help! |

Slow startup in OSX can be caused if you have multiple Ethernet interfaces installed but you haven't removed the unused ones from your network configuration (or at least assigned them fixed IP addresses). Assuming that you are using the Asante 10/ 100 as your primary interface, go into your Network prefs panel and check the settings for your built-in Ethernet interface. If you have left this enabled and selected DHCP then the OS will wait for 30secs-1minute trying to get a DHCP address for the interface. Either assign it a manual (fixed) address or remove it from your configuration (select "Network Port Configurations" from the "Show" pop-up list). In OSX and 9.2.2 make sure you haven't left the built-in as your preferred AppleTalk interface. This again will cause a delay while the OS tries to configure the unused port. On a less optimistic note there are some recent posts on the forum detailing problems with the Asante cards when using file sharing under OSX. You might want to read them. |
