Is there anyway to make the serial port work on a 9600 under 10.26 so that I can see the modem? |

Thanks for your suggestions, I will try Pagesender. FaxSTF worked well for me in OS 9.xx but I understand that the transition to Jaguar has been far from seemless. |

I am using cocoa eFax which is a 10$ shareware. I think Pagesender is nicer though... You can even use the ANCIENT GV performa modems which draw power from the serial port. You should be able to find one of those for free.NOTE: You need to have 9pin serial ports for this type of modem to work. Marty |

I have successfully used Page Sender (you can get it via the VersionTracker web site). Works fine to both send and receive. I tried FaxSTF X but the low cost version only supports built-in modems (and it has a bad reputation with users). I suggest you read the reviews on VersionTracker for both products before trying them. If your modem doesn't have OSX scripts then copy the one from your OS9 system (in System:Extensions:Modem Scripts) to /Library/Modem Scripts/ on OSX. |

Is it than possible to get an external serial faxmodem to work in 10.2.6 to fax? What sort of software would be required? |

Just in case its a simple configuration problem, go into the Network system prefs panel and select "Network Port Configurations" from the "Show" pop-up list. You should see both your modem and printer ports listed. If they are unchecked then enable the one you want to use. If they don't appear then maybe the relevent kext did not load at boot time. Both ports are available on my 8600 which should have the same serial hardware as your 9600. |

The modem works perfectly on my 9600 with a global village external 33.6 Marty PS I use it to fax, but I tested it for data too. |

The serial ports should work fine. Make sure you have "Enable kprintf" turned OFF in XPostFacto. Classic apps can't see the serial ports so you have to use the OS X version of ZTerm. I haven't tried calling anywhere with a modem but I have tried communicating with my other computer over the serial ports in OS X. |

Check out google. I believe people have used ZTerm and other software successfully. I don't have a modem attached to my 8500, but iSync/Palm Desktop syncs through the serial port without any trouble. |
