Hi! I´ve problems with booting to 10.1. Installation and booting to 10.03 was succesfully. I upgraded from 10.1 cd, first boot allow me to see blue apple and gonficuring network textes etc. But when was time for launching finder whole machine freezes. I boot again and after that i get gray apple logo and spinning wheel on the left upper corner on the screen. After awhile i get error messages on the screen eg. kernel panic something like: root: xnu /xnu-201,obj~1/RELEASE_PPC debugger (panic) waiting for remote debugger connection. Can you help? Greetings Matti XPF rules! |

Hi Gurus! You´re right. I did reformat my Fwb formatted disk with my other 10.2 machine succesfully with OsX disk utility.. And also succeeded installation to switch my disk on to external scsi case and assembled in another machine. Only mistake was that it wont accept update 10.1 to eg. 10.1.5 combo. It says "needs installer update to carry on" or something like that... I did made security updates and installer updates but unluckily in wrong order i suppose. So i will do it again :) I let you know when i´m finished, i won´t give up. Anyhow my 9600/300Mhz is working fine with Os 10.1 but no upgradable. |

I think the OS X Disk Utility would be able to initialize that FWB disk. |

Somewhere between 10.0 and 10.1 there were 2 updates that were required for any further updates I believe they were a security and an installer update and I believe they had to be in a certain order also. I don't remember where they fit but I do remember that no further upgrade could be performed with out them Hope that helps JIm |

Can't you get the 10.1 installer CD? I installed on mine with 10.1.2 CD then updated to 10.1.5 and it worked fine. |

Only FWB formatted disk was my Os9 disk (because it has been it´s former life in pc :( Apples disk utility refuses initalization it) Anyway i put my future 10.1 disk in external case and try to assembly with another machine. What confuses me is that 10.0.3 went ok but update to 10.1 went wrong. I will come back when i make my tryouts... |

It may not be the problem But I noticed you have a drive formatted with FWB, if it is not the boot drive it may not be the problem but I have heard there are issues with FWB. Sure wish we had a search function so I couldlook it up.... :o) |

It was probably waiting for a terminal connected to it to debug. In other words, crashed. The only significant difference I see here is the video card. Have you tried to format your OSX device with the OSX installer? Of course, you'd need to backup first! My 9600 was using a 9G SCSI apple-formatted drive (using Drive Setup in OS 9.1). |

I´m using original Ims twinturbo video card. I have scsi chain as follows: ID0=qompacpc(Seagate 2gig formatted FWB, Os9.2.2) ID3= original Apple cd-rom. ID4=Seagate 9gig formatted with =s9 disk utility HFS+, 2 partitions 6 and 3 gig. 10.0.3 in 6 gig partition. ID5= Iomega zip. Ram 304 Meg. De-interleaved. Maybe i should try to disconnect other peripherals? And perhaps check rams. What means that panic text "Waiting for remte debugger connection" ? |

Hmmm.... my machine was exactly this one before I upgraded to a Sonnet G3/400... 10.1.2 installed fine, 10.1.5 upgraded perfectly. Which video card do you use? I use an ATI Rage Orion 128. Any other peripherals? Have you tried to de-interlace the RAM? |
