i'm attempting to install OS X Server 10.2 on a PM 8600 w/ UltraTek 66 ATA Card, onto a 3GB partition. i have successfully installed 10.2 before and it worked fine, but i haven't done OS X Server. admittedly, i'm using a copy of the installer CD made from a disk image, which will not boot on it's own. (i'm attempting to solve this potentially unsolvable dilemma as well, to figure out how to make it boot.) so, using XPF 2.2.5, i began the installation onto the partition, which is empty, and it installs the extensions and reboots. i get a little ways into the bootloader, then kernel panic. in verbose mode, it says a bunch of stuff, such as: "can't get dependencies for kernel extension 'com.apple.driver.ApplePowerSurgePE". IOCatalogue: com.apple.driver.ApplePowerSurgePE cannot be loaded. panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform: "APPL,8500". then there's a bunch of debug information, backtraces and whatnot. then it hangs and that's it. so, any ideas? is it the unbootable CD? is it the 8600? i have tons of RAM, so i don't think that's the problem. |
