MAC Radeon software...HELP!! |

I don't know if anyone remebers but I am the guy who after installing a new Sonnet Crescendo G4 800 Mhz card couldn't get to use the 3D feature of my ATI Radeon Mac edition card, I just can't play any 3d games. With my Newer Tech G4 400 Mhz card I was fine. I found out in OS 9.2, it works fine, so there is no hardware conflicts. Under the ATI Displays control there are three tabs to the left, one is a ATI video card info, one is a 3D info and the other DVD disable/enable tab. I see these three in 9.X, but in OS 10.2.6 it only shows two, ATI info and DVD disable/ enable tab, no DVD Disable/ enable tab. I have the latest ATI drive from ATI. So for some reason the 3D accelarator feature is getting disabled under 10.2.6 and it doesn't help re-installing the driver. How do i do a clean install on the for the ATI driver under 10.2.6? Any suggestions? My specs: PTP/ Sonnet Crescendo 800 Mhz G4/ 800 Mb ram/ ATI mac editon (32 MB), XPF |

Gabb, it is not clear if you ran the 10.2.6 combo updater. That will install the latest available ATI drivers. Did you do that? Also, try creating another account on your machine to see if there is a problem with your current user account. If neither of these work then I would look to the Sonnet card as being the problem. Also, do you have another card to test OpenGL with, like a ATI Rage 128 card? That would also tend to eliminate either you processor or the Radeon card as being at fault. |

I am not buying the power conumpsion theory, you would at least get a hard crash or some kind of crappy video if that was the issue.... It's either you software or the PCI bus arrangement, I wager. Try running the latest ATI software logged in as root? Or repair permissions before installing? You can also use the screen savers like "flurry" to test for 3d goodness. Marty |

thanks twoolley, I tried all of that, but thanks for the info. I think the sonnet card is probably taking too much power so the 3D accelarator card is not enabling, cause it worked fine with Newer Tech G4 400Mhz. It is also working fine under 9.2, so... Man Sonnet sucks, too many problems, I wish there was some other company that made high Mhz cards for PCI mac clones. Gabby |

From the ATI October 18, 2002 Update.html: ATI Displays - 3D Memory Feature The 3D Memory feature from ATI Displays in Mac OS 9 is not applicable when running Mac OS X. Mac OS X treats 3D memory in such a way that it is not possible to display its layout in a simple bar graph as in Mac OS 9. ATI Displays is installed by ATI installersUpdates. The latest version I know about is ATI Displays v.3.2. Check the ATI site for more information about updates. All ATI drivers have been superceded by ATI drivers supplied by Mac OS 10.2.x updates however, so if you use the October ATI update you must reinstall the ATI drivers from Apple for best function. 3D is handled by the drivers, and in OS X the ATI Displays control panel is superfulous at best except for info, DVD interlace, and TV2 for those Radeon cards that support it. I suggest you read the entire October ATI update read me files for further information about the differences of Radeon cards under OS 9.x and OS X. There are many. Hope this helps, Tom |

I read that 10.2.6 had the most current ATI drivers. Reinstall the combo update; or use the Feb ATI drivers. I assume you've got the ROM update if this is the 7000. Was there ever even a ROM update for the original 2001 Radeon Mac? |
