Help! w/ PowerComputing PowerCenter |

Howdy Yesterday I installed OSX on a PowerComputing 150. The machine as stands as a 220Mhz processor (604e), 272MB Ram, internal ZIP, an 18G IBM internal SCSI partioned into 7G (for OSX install) and 9G sections, I an ATI Rage Pro 128 video card, and the original Apple Rom 1G internal SCSI drive. I had the 1G drive set up as my OS9.1 disk. Using XPostFacto, I installed OSX without a hitch and it functioned quite well once installed. I rebooted several times and everytime the PC booted into OSX as well as it does with my G4. I went to work and when I came home, I decided I would do the upgrade to 10.1, so when I booted the PowerCenter, I held the option key down to boot into 9.1. Once I booted into 9.1, I saw no hide or hair of the 18G drive. It is not recognized by Drive Setup, Norton Systemworks, Disk First Aid, nothing. I booted up from a 9.1 disk, as well as an older Norton Utilities disk (pre 9.2 system folder), and neither saw the drive. I zapped the PRAM, and like an earlier thread I read, this messed up the ATI PCI card. The PowerCenter wouldn't recognize the card, so the only way to get to 9.1 is with internal video. I switched busses between the 18G and 1G SCSI drives and there is still no recognition of the 18G drive. I removed the PRAM battery and let the PowerCenter set overnight. Upon reboot, still no recognition of the 18G/OSX hard drive. I have yet to try to install XPostFacto on the 1G drive in an attempt to use the Disk Utility from the OSX install disk. Partially I'm afraid of messing up my 1G drive, until someone tells me it'll be safe. I'm fairly confident that everything on the SCSI bus is well terminated. I do intend to use the machine with a Sonnet Crescendo G3 upgrade (once it gets here from OWC). Any and all suggestions are kindly appreciated. Jim |

Well, after several hours of troubleshooting, got everything working again and am currently installing 10.1. Keep my fingers crossed that it boots correctly after the install. SCSI was totally messed up. After I entered the above request, my 1G drive also disappeared. I went through all my SCSI devices, checked IDs, reconnected them, shifted some of them around, and then went through resetting PRAM and CUDA. The mac finally saw the 1G and 18G drives, with my OSX system folder in tact. The ATI Rage Pro is also working again. Let's hope everything still works after installling the Sonnet G3 upgrade. Jim |
