Frankenstein's bolts came loose this morning. When I try to boot into OS X, I get the gray apple with the spinning thingy for a few minutes.. then a bunch of horizontal white lines appear and the system hangs. I boot into OS 9 to reinstall XPF. When I try to reinstall on internal drive or install to external drive, I get the error, "Could not complete your requiest because there was a problem writing to NVRAM. What fo I do now? Is this a hardware issue? I replaced the PRAM battery three weeks ago. and the clock still reads the correct time and date. |

Could be the PRAM battery? Also I had to replace the CPU card on my 266 wallstreet model, after it died. Of course this has nothing to do with XPF. Marty |

Have you tried installing Jaguar with less RAM? I found it difficult to install with more than the 192MB maximum (according to Apple specs for these machines - 64M in lower slot, 128M in upper) in my Wallstreet. After it was installed, I put the extra RAM back in and it has been working ever since. |

Okay... nothin seems to work. Here's wat I've done so far... Zero'd out the internal drive. restored OS 9. Ran DiskWarrior... it crashed again. Upon restart, I got an error saying there was a problem with memory. I replace the lower DIMM with a new one. Restarted... no memory error. I zapped the PRAM (four chimes). I attempted to install Jag using XPF... I got the same exact error message "Could not complete your requiest because there was a problem writing to NVRAM". I'm about to throw in the towel. OS 10.2.6 ran great on this machine for more than a month and now it won't even install. |

Sounds like a kernel panic to me. I had a similar problem when trying to install Jag for the first time on my Wallstreet. I fixed it by running Disk Warrior and also Norton Disk Doctor and Speed Disk on all drives attached to the computer. Try running Disk Warrior again. It usually won't crash a second time. YMMV. |

I just tried again and got a bunch of code overlapping the gray apple screen. I have a good picture of the screen but I don't know how to upload to this site so you guys can see what it says. |

All of the above. I'm trying reinstall OS X (Jag). I already tried the reintalling XPF with Boot X and Extensions. I'm tring to reinstall Jag because I can't boot into OS X, just OS 9. |

Question #1: what are you trying to reinstall? Jaguar all over again? Why??? Question #2: have you tried booting into OS 9, launching XPF, the going to the menu at the top of the screen, and selecting reinstall Boot X and Extensions? Or is that what you were referring to about reinstalling? If there is a problem with the NVRAM, you'll prolly have to press the CUDA reset button. I dunno where it is on a Wallstreet. |

I almost forgot... system specs... Wallstreet Powerbook 250MHz. 4GB internal drive, 320 MB RAM. A SCSI hard drive is attached but the same crash happens when it's disconnected. Norton has been run. DiskWarrior has been run but the system crashed during the diagnostics. |
