Are these OS X methods options to keep our systems clean or are they beyond our capability? All of my apps are in OS 9 that repair, clean drives(disk warrior, Norton, etc.). How do and can I repair permissions and run fsck on my PM 9500? Sorry for my probable simple question. Any directions on how to execute these things will certainly help people like myself. Thanks in advance. Corndog |

Thanks for the help. The app that you suggested via versiotracker did the trick. You are correct. I'm not running Jag. Still running 10.1.5. Thanks for the easy instructions. Corndog |

It's the volume that you need to specify when running Disk Utility. However, you can't use Disk Utility to repair a volume from which you are currently booted. Running Disk First Aid from OS 9 should allow you to verify and repair your OSX partition. Also, the option to repair disk permissions was only added to Disk Utility in 10.2 - you didn't say what version of OS X you were on. Apple did release a standalone utility called "Apple Repair Privileges" for OS 10.1 which you can download from versiontracker http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15313 |

The fsck ran like a charm. Thanks for the instructions. Very easy. The disk utility gave me a little trouble. The 'boot' drive that I'm using is two partitions. The first is about 4 megs(my OS X partition), the second is a little over 4-5 megs (my back up OS 9, MP3 drive). In this instance am I choosing the start up drive or the start up volume? I don't have any options that I have when I choose either and go to First Aid. Am I doing something wrong or backwards? I tried choosing the drive and then the volume on separate launches of Disk Utility. Did I miss a step? Thanks again for the help. Corndog |

to fix premissions go to the disc utility in OSX (/applications/utillities/) and if you click on your boot drive and go to first aid and click repair premissions. to run fsck, you have to start up in single users mode and type "fsck -y" (that's fsck- space-minus-y) then hit enter, when it is done type exit and then hit return and it will continue booting into OSX. (i actually for got the fsck CMD so i did a google search and found this site, http://forums.osxfaq.com/viewtopic.php?t=2118 that will do it. |
