Machine: 9500 Processor: Sonnet G3 400 HD: SCSI 4g (stock)(empty & initialized), IDE 8g (default boot) IDE Controller: ACARD 66 Video: Twin Turbo 128 Memory: 386mB - 2 sticks of 128, 2 sticks of 32, 2 sticks of 8, 1 stick of 32 USB card OS: 9.2 (OWC) on the IDE, the SCSI is empty. CD install disk: 10.2 Trying to install using XPF to the 4g SCSI. XPF copies all the files down to the SCSI disk then reboots. When it reboots the screen stays dark. Will not light up until I zappadepram, in which case it reboots back into 9.2. Tried this with 2 different monitors, a Gem flat panel multiscan and a Mitsubishi multiscan 17", same result. Is it the Twin Turbo that is not being recognized here? |

In XPF, look at one of the menus (cannot recall which menu exactly, but something like OpenFirmware) that says display. Select the one associated with your Twin Turbo. It would also be a good idea to attach your keyboard. Then restart using XPF. |

Some video cards do not initialize in OS X early enough to show the gray Apple screen, or the verbose dumps if they are enabled. I have a flashed Radeon 7000 that works just fine for verbose in OS X. My old Matrox Millennium card did not work for verbose in OS X, while the stock ATI card from my 9500 DID work. Use XPF to boot into OS X, and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. Unless you are experiencing boot problems, it'll get into X after a while. I hated having to wait when I was using my Matrox card. If, after a while, the machine still isn't showing signs of life, you're going to have to get a video card that WILL initialize so you can see verbose mode and pin down exactly what the problems are. (gratuitous advertisement) I'd be willing to sell my old ATI card should you find you need it. |

No, I was XPF'ing from 9.2. Do I have to go back to 9.1? I did try command-V, no difference. It does not send a signal to the monitor after the reboot, and in order to get it to wake up again in 9.2 I have to boot with command- option-P-R (zap the pram). No, don't have a different video card for it. All the other OS's - 7, 8 and 9 - show up on this card/monitor combo, but XPF does not light it up. |

Did you try using XPostFacto from Mac OS 9.1? Did you try verbose mode (hold command-V during boot) to see if there are any usefull error messages? Do you have a different video card to test? |
