PTPro Upgrade Problem... |

I am upgrading a PTP180. Right now it has a 225 processor from another PTP I have / 280 MB RAM / 2 Seagate 18GB drives / an ACARD 6260 (no drives yet) / the original CDROM (I think) / an ATIMach64 / and a combo FW/USB2.0 card w/front & back connectors. One or the drives has a 2 gb 9.2.2 partition; and a 15 gb w/ os 10.1.x(?) I bought this machine because my other PTP has the motherboard that does not like the G4 Sonnet upgrade cards. The machine came as described above except for the ACARD; and it seemed to run 9.2.2 & 10.1 fine. I now want to add the Sonnet 700mhz card, an ATI 7000 and upgrade the os to 10.2.6. I thought I'd do the OS first, but after copying the files and attempting to restart, nada. No video; and it even seems like there's no hard disk activity. I have no choice but to force quit. Then I have to zap the pram to get a 9.2.2 boot. At this point, the 10.1 system is apparently corrupt. I can't boot it with XPFO, and it does not appear in Apple System Profiler (9.2.2). So I tried to reinstall 10.1 and same issue; nothing happens when it restarts after copying files. So here are my questions... ...could the FW/USB PCI card be a problem? ...what about the acard? ...the CDROM is at ID 5; is that OK or does it need to be at 3? ...I have 10.2 UPGRADE, not complete install. will it work w/XPFO to u/grade 10.1? ...can/should I install the ATI 7000 video card, or will the one there now work w/10.2 (it works w/ 10.1) ...what about the Sonnet upgrade? 10.1 ran w/ the 180 & 225 PowerPC chips; will 10.2 install ok with nonG3/4 processors? all suggestions and wisdom appreciated! |

I pulled this from Ryans' documentation on the Xpostfacto download page. "Mac OS X 10.2 does not work with a 603 or 604 CPU either. It is possible that this may be fixed in time, once Apple makes the latest kernel sources available. ..." I assume you have a version of the 604 chip in the original PTP180. As for the 10.1 partition, I would first try repairing it, perferably with Diskwarrior while in OS 9, then in Xpostfacto, BEFORE you try restarting in the OSX partition, select "reinstall extensions" (something like that) option in one of Xpostfactos pull down menus. Good luck |
