Does anyone here have any idea how to tell if Altivec is installed in OS 9.2.2? I have no idea what form Altivec takes--are there Altivec extensions? Sorry for posting this question here. No one seems to be at home at the OS 9 Forum. |

The latest versions of Sonnet software do support 9.2.x even though they won't tell u that. |

Michael, Thabks fot the tip anyway. I'm using OS 9.1 here due to an uncompatibility between the patched OS 9.2.2 (I'm on a PM9600) and Pro Tools. I wasn't aware of that Sonnet/altivec/OS9.2 issue. |

fractal carbon will let you turn altivec on/off in the file menu and show if it's detected (or not) there, as well. Mike |

i think fractal carbon will run anyway but if you get a low low score, like in the Mflop and not Gflops then you probably don't have Altivec enabled. My J700 with a sonnet G4 400 gets 1-2.5Gflops. |

rpjallan is right: there are NO seperate Altivec extensions in OS 9.2.x. voxxdigital: The Sonnet installation manual talks about OS9 installations BEFORE 9.2. These early 9 versions did have seperate Altivec extensions, installers/updaters for later versions will delete them, anyway. Sonnet doesn't tell you about this, as they explicitly DO NOT support 9.2 on our machines. Bottom line: using OS9.2 don't care for Altivec extensions and if you're unsure, follow rpjallan's suggestion and try AltivecFractal Carbon Demo. Mike |

The Sonnet installation manual tells to re-install OS9 (actually to make a custom install over the current system) to install the "altivec enabler" (?). |

I don't think there are any seperate Altivec extensions in OS 9.2.2. I think Altivec support is built in to the system. Try running AltivecFractal Carbon Demo, available here: http://daugerresearch.com/fractaldemos/altivecfractalcarbon.html or other benchmarks which may tell you if Altivec is enabled. |

i believe there is an AltiVec Extension in OS9 but if you are moving to OSX completely then you don't have to worry because OSX auto-detects AltiVec on start up. |
