Anyone tell me what messege means: "Multimedia read and write fail". Does this mean it won't load from my CD Rom drive? It's a Mashitsu manufactured drive for Apple. |

Probably defective CD. Use a CD-R instead of CD-RW, or the original. |

if you have an extra HD partition or don't mind making a new 700MB one, you should be able to recover the OSX CDROM to your hard drive partition (a bootable one, and it can not be the sam ejone that you are about to install X on) by using Apple Software Restore (it is on your hard drive somewhere, do a search) then tell XPF to boot from the hard drive (no need for the CD). I have only seem people use this if they can't boot the CD at all and is usually because their CDROMs are not supported for booting, but if it is a problem with your CDROM drive doing this should fix it. Good Luck |

I have had issues with the Mishita CD ROM drives, I had to pull another stock Apple OEM made by Sony to get it to work. Curiously, both machines were 8500's and both were stock aside from the procs....... |

This is during initial install. It goes through all those XPost lines of type and then says "SAM multimedia write or read fail" and then won't finish install, says "install failed, reboot" |

is this before, while, or after you installed OSX. I know Audio and probably video will not play off most old SCSI drives, you will need to buy a ATA/IDE PCI card and a new CD ROM or Firewire/USB CDROM. |
