I just installed a SIIG 5port USB 2.0 card in my 9500 (slot 5..I know it's not the best choice, but ..)along with the Orange Micro and SIIG USB 2.0 drivers..(OrangeMicro after SIIG)..I know USB 1.1 is working in X (10.2.6) but I have no 2.0 devices so I have no way to determine whether 2.0 is working or not; the 2.0 card does seem more solid under X then the 1.1 card I has (also SIIG) but so far I haven't gotten it working in 8/9X yet. Any known bugs with this card under 8/9? And will it work at 2.0 speed in X without an NEC chipset (or does it have one)? If so how do i find out ? Thanks... |

My NEC USB-2 card is in the slot 5, and it's working OK. I already tried another USB-2 card with the same NEC chipset of my current card, and it didn't work at all in OS 9, I don't know the reason. This card I'm using now is an USB-2/Firewire combo card, unbranded. It works fine in OS 9 as USB 1.1 emulation and OS X as 2.0. To find out if the chipset is NEC it's easy: just look at the card's circuitry and check if one big black chip has the word "NEC" written on it. USB-2 cards with the VIA chipset does NOT work on a Macintosh at all. |
